Well, usin a rubber mallet isn't going to help if your swinging across it. The reason I say that is because there are alignment dowels between the case and cover that hold it on. Like pegs that hold the gasket in kinda. If ur gonna use a mallet, the only thing that'll help is if u swing it towards yourself. That make any sense? Keep trying, those dowels have a tight tolerance. Grab a hold of the edges and keep wiggling. If you can get something narrow inbetween the two do that. Make sure its plastic or wood, BE CAREFUL and dont score the mating surface. LMK how it goes man.

And on a side not it may just be a little tuff because it has a slight magnetic hold to it, so just don't be a girl and PULL haha

If it's the original gasket in there, or one that's been on long enough, it's likely to be stuck amazingly well to both sides and may tear when you (gently) pry the cover off. Get a new one and be extra effin careful when you put the cover back on, the dowel on the top right will push the starter motor gear off of its happy little home and you won't know it until you're all done...and ready to ride...and it won't start...and you wonder what the hell is wrong with your bike...and then you start swearing...[:@]

Pulled mine off this weekend. First off (I know this is stupid) make sure you have all the bolts off. Pulling the cover off is tricky for several reasons. There are alignment dowels holding the thing on and if one side gets pulled out too much more than the other it will stick. Also there is a magnetic pull on the cover so you have to pull harder than what you would think. My best advice is to pull the cover straight off while SLIGHTLY wiggling it left/right.

Also like stated before, when you get the cover off the dowel on the right will have the starter gear on it. Make sure you push the dowel back in the hole and get the gear back aligned or you will be pulling it off again when it doesnt start.

I also have a general question I want to throw out there. When I pulled my cover I was in the middle of doing an oil change. I had drained the oil but not put any back in because I knew pulling the stator cover would leak oil. My question is if I pull the cover with the engine full of oil will it all leak out or just a little bit of it?
