Default Speed Sensor 98-99 models

I have a 99 900rr and the speedo isn't registering. Says i'm going 10mph when i'm going 50 and 15mph when i'm at 80mph.

Does anyone know if speed sensors were faulty this year or where it is on my bike? I'm pretty sure it isn't cable driven because I don't see a cable coming down to my front wheel. Is it on the Tranny/Engine somewhere?

Are these hard/expensive to fix?

I'm pretty sure the gauges are working just fine.

Any help would be appreciated!

I have not heard of any issues with this, mine works fine. The sensor runs off the counter shaft, and it's electronic. I dont know exactly where the pick up is for it though. But as for a known issue, no, I have not heard anything of this sort. Probably not hard to fix if it's just the pick up. Maybe it's covered in grease or something?

The speedo sensor is right in front of the upper motor mounts. Iti s a black oval-shaped plate that bolts onto the gearbox. When you remove it, it is a long cylinder with a magnet pickup at the end. This, in turn, picks up a magnet spinning on the gearbox. It actually sits in an oil bath with the rest of the gears. It's easy to remove if you think there is a problem.

With your speedo problem, I bet you have an aftermarket sprocket on the back. This is throwing the speedo way off. You might beed a Yellow Box or SpeedoHealer. I just corrected mine myself...
