Smaller engine in a '94 900rr
Hey guys, new poster here...I had a question for ya...I'm a new owner and am purchasing a '94 900rr for $600 bucks. The engine the bike is coming with is seized and apparently non-functioning...my question is, would it be possible to swap out the engine with something less powerful as I don't need a 900 engine? I'd like to be in the 600 range, and also...would it be possible to make the bike fuel injected if i used an f4i engine? Thanks for your help!
I will say anything is possible. How much do you want to spend? You are going to basically swap everything from one bike to another. the hardest part will be the placement of your front sprocket. Depending on where it sits on the F4i engine, you may need to have custom work done on that and the engine mounting bolts. with everything else you can probably retro fit or even use parts off of the 99 to make work like the radiator. It might just be worth keeping it a 900 rather that making all the changes.
remember, these 900rr was built base on modern day sports bike's blue print "weight centralization"....meaning the center of bike being the heaviest outward....this result in great handling. Changing the engine size (with smaller) will shift the center weight out of normal some how? Any thing is possible but is it a good idea...
As easy as it is to bolt a 900rr engine into a 600F2 frame, I would assume it would be just about the same if you did the opposite. I've got a 900RR engine that I'm going to swap into my F2 as soon as I get carbs/airbox/ header for the 900. That'll leave me with a complete 600F2 engine that runs perfectly and needs a home. Maybe we could help each other out.

Just put another 900rr engine in it & be done. Otherwise, you're getting into a whole host of issues that you may not have the expertise for. By just replacing engines, you can reuse all other original components & have spares from the old engine. I think you'll find just replacing same engines is project enough.
