SHOULD I BUY? HELP! "93" 900RR..NOT MY BIKE
Need some help. trying to decide to get serious and buy this bike, a bit afraid its too old (I know I will hear about that after reading the great thread here!)
Been riding my whole life (45yrs old)..
I used to run dealer plates and recently owned 02 gsxr 600, 95 nija 600 and my last bike last year was a Honda ST1100 (Sold it when I broke up with my girlfriend)
The bike looks/seems like its been pretty well taken care of.
Heres the description: Its an action and the seller wants $2750
THANKS!
1993 CBR 900 RR (RACE READY EDITION) HONDA SPORTBIKE WITH 27,500 MILES ON IT. IT BOASTS A MEAN 124.5 HORSEPOWER STOCK AND IT HAS HAD A K/N FILTER, VANCE AND HINES PIPE, AND JET KIT INSTALLED. HIT THE KEY AND ITS RUNNING NO COLD STARTS ON THIS HONDA. IVE JUST TUNED IT UP FOR THIS SEASON WITH NEW PLUGS,OIL, FILTER,FUEL FILTER, ETC. I USE ONLY HONDA OEM PARTS EVEN THE OIL IS HONDA. IT HAS A NEWER MICHILIN PILOT 180 ON THE BACK, GOOD BATTLEAXE ON THE FRONT, NEW SPROCKETS, AND A NEWER CHAIN. IT HAS BLUE HEADLIGHTS AND FIREFLY VALVE STEM COVERS ALSO BLUE. THIS BIKE HAS BEEN VERY WELL MAINTAINED AND ADULT RIDDEN IT HAS NEVER BEEN WRECKED, BUT HAS HOWEVER BLOWN OVER IN A DRIVEWAY CAUSING IT SOME VERY MINOR SCRATCHES TO THE LEFT MID FAIRING. I HAVE REPAIRED THE FAIRING AND YOU CANNOT SEE THE CRACK OR SCRATCHES UNLESS YOU REALLY GET DOWN ON IT TO LOOK. ALSO THERE IS A 1-2 INCH RIP IN THE SEAT COVER THIS IS ABOUT A $20 FIX. I TOOK THE BIKE ON TRADE FOR A RACE QUAD AND ALREADY OWN A BIKE ITS OBVIOUSLY BEEN WELL KEPT AND I WANT TO SEE IT GO TO SOMEONE WHO WILL ENJOY IT.

if i were you i would check it out in person to make sure it runs good, maybe even a test drive.
i myself had bought 2 93'slast year one was a wrecked bike thought i would take what i thought was the cheep way out.
i talked w/some guy over the phone got a list of things that it needed and bought it ,i was buying parts before i even got the bike (from indiana) got the bike and almost **** myself it needed way more than i was told. so i got aggravaded , thought i would have it done so i could be riding it for the summer. i ended up looking for another one, well i found one inFL, again i talked w/another guy he sent me lots of pictures swore up and down it was one of the cleanest 93's around, so i bought it $5000.00 w/18k on it. well i waited for 2 1/2 months to get it delivered, the bike was awsome it looked like brand new and ran like new. this bike draws more attention than any car or oyher bike i have ever owned. every single time i go to the dealer for parts at least 2 people working there or not offer to buy it. the lowest offer was $5000.00 the best offer was a new 07 1000rr. i eventually called back the guy i bought it from and had to tell him how happy i was and that i will probly keep it until i cant sit on it anymore. don't be affrade of the age just the mechanicles and that it runs good these bikes are known for ther reliability. GOOD LUCK,
ron

Ron,
Thanks so much for the response. Its hard to keep the fever down but its a must to be careful. You think I would know by now having been around buying and selling bikes and cars all these years. I would definetely check it out and drive it and if the seller objected, I would just walk away. I used to buy salvage certificate bikes online via photos and was only burned once. Your latest bike sounds like a keeper. My ST1100 was rare mint low miles ABS red from a collector. Not an RR but you get my drift...I think this bike is a decent bike but not sure if I would not be better off spending a few more bucks if its just something I will regret and be selling after the summer..
Thanks

The pictures of the scoot look damn nice shows that the bike is close to or at100% orginal, hard to find them in that condition on todays market. It took me three years of hunting down the 93 that I wanted to add to my collection. My fancy was the Red, White Blue RR.
Finding them in them in a orginal condition isvery hard, from what is posted about the bike the miles are nothing to worry about if the factory maintenance has been performed and backed with receipts. Again I think the owner is for real and could have them when you check out the scoot.
I say if he has what you are looking for Go For It. The 9RR is a Sweet scoot and you will find it to fitthe taller person well...... Don't worry about being 45 LMAO us older guys can be fast when we want to be..... I have 10 years on you.... Yea go fast when I want to....
Your ST was a nice ride for sure, been lucky tohave put a few miles on one myself, but the RR will give you the kick in the A$$ you are looking for.....Enjoy the scoot if all measures up.

If you can't look at it in person ask for closer shots with higher res pics. It looks to me like there is some damage (scrapes) to the stator cover and the plastic looks like it might be scraped or cracked (middle fairing rear bolt area) but then again that could just be the picture. Then there's the obvious rip to the top of the seat which is indicative of it being left outside for a while. But I do like the little spoiler on the rear though.
Just my thoughts, it sounds a bit fishy.
You gotta see the bike and ride the bike in person. No ifs ands or buts.
The buyer stating that it tipped due to the wind has me very suspicious.
I'd keep my options open until you can really see it for what it is.
