Default Shock question....

Does anyone know if a shock from an earlier 900 (like a 96) will fit a 98?

Sorry if this has been covered before.

A 96/97 shock will fit the 98/99 model according to the manual. I suggest you use the same spring from your 98 to eliminate any marginal difference of the height though.

it won't, cuz the battery tray is in the way. The other dude who posted this in the "modifications"showed pics, but he does not have his battery tray in the sub-frame I noticed.

So, the 929/954 shock won't fit, but the 96-97 one will if I use my spring.

Here is the situation. I have a complete shock from a 96 as spare. I was planning on sending it to Traxxion for a refresh/revalve for my weight. If it bolts right up, I will go ahead and use it, but if not, I will just take mine off and send it in this winter.

Thanks for all the answers!

Shock mounted right up for me..... the only thing i needed to do was rotate the triangles to make the height correct.

Not that this will help but I threw an 02' CBR1100XX shock on my bike and it woks great. I think it is valved for a heavier load so it feels smoother and absorbs bumps way better than my stock unit did. I have jacked the rear of my bike up slightly with custom triangles so I can't remember if the shock changed the ride height, but I am almost positive they are the same length eye to eye.
