Default Satin Black '98 900RR

So, I am constantly checking the boards all of the time and wanted to share with you guys some of the progress that I have made on my 900RR rebuild. To start, I have owned my 900RR for about 12 years. Unfortunately, it has had three wrecks. First one was from the original owner, Second and third were from cousins of mine. It was then sitting in my garage for about two years. I decided to rebuild it and got lots of ideas from the boards. This is what I have done so far. 1) Take it apart and do some major carb work, 2) install a fuel pump, 3) Install a 2007-08 R1 Tail, 4) Replace forks and triple trees, Replace front rotors, calipers, and tires, 5) Paint bike satin black, 6) paint frame black (with spray can), 7) Replaced regulator, and 8) replaced handlebar grips and levers. There might be other things that I did, but I won't bore you much longer. I am not done yet, and still have a few things to do. I still have to install the gutted R1 cans to the undertail, wrap exhaust with black exhaust wrap, and replace headlight. Let me know what you guys think and what else I should do.

thanks for the compliment. I went with that tail because my cousin had that R1 and I really liked its look. I agree that it doesn't mesh perfectly well with the bike. I still went through with it because I was able to get the parts for dirt cheap and I might streetfighter the bike later on. I added the fuel pump because of the suggestion of a mechanic I know. It seems to make a bit of a difference. It seems to make the bike smoother.

Looks awesome man. I am looking at tails like that for my 94 900cc. Not sure if I can even do something similar or not. If u have any tutorials, I would appreciate it. Awesome build.

Thanks Paranoia. I got most of my ideas and tutorials from this and other forums. I bought the R1 subframe and lined it up to the 900RR frame and mocked up some templates. When lining up the tail, make sure that you have it high enough so that you can fit the cans underneath and still have it high enough that it won't look too low. I was then able to get a friend to cut me those templates out of 1/4 plates. I then installed the plates. I then painted them and made it look like it was part of the subframe. Then, relocate everything that was on the 900RR subframe into the R1 subframe. That wasn't too bad. The only issue that I had was that I did not install the regulator properly. Make sure that you relocate your regulator somewhere that it will be able to be cooled and make sure that it is grounded properly. I burned my original regulator because I placed the regulator without grounding it properly. When I placed the new one, I made sure that it was grounded properly. I even sanded down some of the paint where the regulator comes into contact with the subframe so that there is enough contact to ground. When it comes down to it, it is not as hard as it seems. I am definitely not a fabricator or a mechanic. I am a bit handy and was able to figure it out.

Awesome! Yea, my bike is completely naked and figured I might as well change the tail before I buy fairings. Thanks a bunch for the info!

Hey Flat, nice mod. I was thinking of doing the same thing if I burn out another regulator. Post up some pics of your bike so that I can see your work.
