Default Rectifier smelling a little.

It's fairly new, and it has been really hot in San Fran lately(100's). This is also the first time it has been this hot since it was installed( by it's old owner).

After a 1/2 hour ride I can smell plastic. You know that hot electric plastic smell. Subtle, but if I stick my nose under the right side of the seat it seems strongest. It goes away quickly after the bike is off. It usually smells when the fans are on high. When very hot right after a ride. As soon as I turn off the bike and the key, the smell goes away in 15-30 seconds. Pretty quick.

Normal, or are there more problems lurking.

When I bought the bike 3 months ago, the owner said the rectifier had burnt out. The plug to the stator was melted a little and half of it had been replaced. It has run perfectly since I bought it with no problems. About 3000 miles worth of riding.

It could be the rectifier, but I bet it is the wiring that goes to the rectifier itself. Check the wires and see if they are crispy...

Nevermind, I just read your meltdown post. Sorry to hear the bad news.

You were right about the wiring. Any burning plastic smell is a bad thing.
