Default Part advice

Hey all. I picked up a 1998 CBR 900RR as a project bike that I have been working on for the last week. Can someone take a look at this cowl stay, and tell me if it looks like thiers. I have compared it to a microfiche image and it doesn't seem to look the same, but it is hard to tell with a black and white schematic. It seems to rest lower than it should causing it to scrape the starting switch assembly. Thanks for help in advance for any help.

It's bent, I can't be sure from the angle of your picture but it looks pretty bad. The angle on the mirror stay should be closer to 90 degrees. Which might also mean the main upper fairing stay is also bent or it's really stressing the upper cowl plastics.

First pic pulled up good, second one was a red x.

Two possibilities:
1) One it's bent
2) It's amirror stay from a '96-97. These can be used, but have to be bent to work on the '98-99's.

In not seeing the second picture, I'm going to guess that it's option #2. It's been painted and this would led me to believe that something happened along the way and the previous ownerpicked it up, not knowing there was a difference between the years.

Maybe someone else will chime in will some more options. GL and I say just mount up the fairing and then adjust your mirror stay (aka bend) so you aren't stressing the plastics.

Ah. Thanks for the info. I figured it must have been bent somewhat, but even if I bent it up slightly it still didn't look like it would have been right. I suppose the front center cowl isn't suppose to be bent either huh? The center stay that goes from the front of the frame and connects to the upper, and holds the speedometer assembly. It is slighty bent in the center kinda like an upside down v. Not bad, but slightly. I thought it was suppose to be straight though.

Part 9 in the pick. If I were looking at this part from the side, should it be straight or slightly bend in the center?

Here is a better pic, viewing from the side. Man, it looks even more bent in the pic.

Should it look like this?

Nope that's bent too. Lucky for you you can usually get them on ebay for about 20 bucks each.
