Our bikes get GLOWING reports in mags!
I'm sure this isn't news to anybody here, but our bikes do rock. We are not the only ones to know this. I have bought 2 motorcycle magazines recently that have reviewed the 900rr. Issue#2 of Motorcyclist Retro has a full page review recommending them as a future classic. And Performance Bikes Oct. '08from the U.K. has a three page comparo between the original firebladeand the new '08 model. Ours wins, I kid you not, and I quote- "The greatest bike ofthe 20th century.Stands the test of time. This is a good example and proves that an early 1990's superbike can still feel sharp. It is better looking, arguably more involving and way, way cooler than the 2008 bike. Original and best."
Of course there is no denying the march of progress, and the 08 is stated to be the finest machine of the 21st century. But of course I was absolutely glowing with pride. I found both of these magazines at the same time on the same newstand in a Barnes& Noble in Portland, OR. I havebeen unable to resist showing them to anybody even remotely interested (or not).
Rejoice 900 fans. Our redemption is nigh.
P.S. Has anyone else noticed that this forum turns an apostrophe into a quotation mark?

That's fantastic JD! Being able to keep up in terms of power and handling with the newer bikes is not something easy for a decade plus bike.
P.S. Just ignore the apostrophe... its been here for quite sometime with us!

A "future classic"? Its a classic dude, hands down. Our bikes are sick and that's the end of it. People love to brag that they have the best and brightest but we can brag that we got something almost 15 yeas old that is still able to keep up with the new technology. The mid 90's offered the 16" wheel upfront which some people see as a negative but I persoanally love the "twitchy" feel that it offers. The frame isn't so rigid that its unforgiving and the only real shortcoming that comes to mind is the braking power. They are awesome bikes, the original super bike, that most pople will never understand the importance of. Honda paved the way for all that have come after it and still shows how incredibly advanced the engineering of the original design was. The only sportbike I have ever owned is my 900 and I have absolutely no intention of ever giving it up, no matter what comes down the line. Its all that you will ever need on the street and its reliability and and ergonomics put it way ahead of the competition. Its great that the magazines still give it props but we should all take silent pride in the fact that we ride these wonderful machines and keep the history alive. I've always said that with no more than two grand in mods to the suspension and brakes, out 900's will outclass almost anything on the road. Nice writup on the articles, I will see if I can find them online because its always nice to read good things about such underappreciated bikes.
I hear ya guys. Andit IS a classic. A freind of mine is a 900 owner and loved it when I got one. Other guys we ride with don't get it. I started having my electrical problems, and as i'm working on it the other guys would stand around andthe best help they could offer was "just part it outand get something else." Pissed me off on a few levels.
I'll be honest. I bought this bike because I felt it wastime for a large motor bike and I could afford it. Plus it looked great and honda is my brand. I new nothing about it other than my freind said "It's a great bike, you'll love it. Becareful because the front is a 16 so it's a bit unstable." I felt that if I kept it cool while I was getting to know it, no problem. The first time I rode it I loved it. And when you really pull the trigger on it, it gets angry and it's downright addictive.
In my opinion character is what this bike has that lot's of others lack.
P.S. How could anyone using a forum ignore an apostrophe... =^)

Not only do they show up as quotation marks, they keep growing if someone quotes what you say...
I'll have to get that issue of Retro, I thought they were only doing eighties and older bikes.
Tell you what, having had the 900RR since it was new, it was a unique feeling (aside from the fact everyone had one lol) to own a bike that was head and shoulders above everything.
Today I think you would have to buy a Desmosedici to get the same feeling. The competition is just too close. Back then it really did feel like Honda had given us a futuristic, lightweight scalpel lightyears ahead of the big, fat bikes, like the FZR1000, GSXR1100, and ZX-11.

I wish I had known about this sooner. I tried to find both those mags but couldn't. I was able to read the little writeup from MC Retro online but I went to barnes & noble just on the off chance of finding an oct. issue of Fast Bikes but no luck. The NOV. issue does have a tiny picture of'92 900RRon the cover. It appears to be part of a used bike buyers gude or something.
Actually Jeff1980 the mag you are looking for is called Performance Bikes (PB), a british rag. Oct 2008, first few pages. But yeah, it may be too late to find it on the racks. Maybe you can order it online? Although the bit on our blades is read quickly, it is a relatively thick, dense magazine that provides enough reading material to justify spending almost 9$ US. For me, anyway.
Good Luck!
Good Luck!
Thanks. They didn't even have Performance Bikes. I always liked picking up a copy of that or Fast Bikes (another mag from the uk)The writers/test riders are a little less uptight than those un the us printed mags. They are a bit on the expensive side for a magazine but I agree, it's well worth it.
My 95cbrRR was my third bike...I can remember my first ride on it.I was awed at the performance. It made my previous rides irrelevant and opened me up to a new and exciting style of riding.Ive since purchased a 954 but it took a quit abit of mods for me to feel the same way about the 954.They really are a great bike that I will always have a soft spot for.
