Default New Owner & 900RR Track Bike Build

Whats up guys! I am a transplant from the CBRF3 and Streetfighers groups here at cbrforum. Just bought a 1999 CBR900RR that I plan on turning into a track bike for this spring/summer. Currently in the process of teardown to figure out exactly what type of condition the bike is in and to tear out all the headlights/turns/wiring/etc... Once the bank account recovers a bit from this purchase I plan on getting some racing bodywork on the way for it along with some other fun stuff like stainless steel brake lines and all the good stuff. I know I am gonna have a few questions for you guys and just thought I would introduce myself now, here is the new bike:

You should be able to sell that headlight...they are pretty rare nowadays.

Is that the stock 16" front wheel on there? That is probably a future mod as well...there is a better selection of rubber for 17".

Make sure you take lots of pics!

yes it is a 16" front rim, thanks for the heads up!

no more turn signals, headlight, tail light, switches. new wiring to front gauges and starter/engine kill switches.

if any of you guys want the headlight assembly just let me know

Nice start. When you get a chance do you think you could measure the OD of that pipe for me? I wan't to compare it to my Skorpion system...

you looking for the o/d of the pipe after the 4-into-1 and before the can, right below the right hand foot peg?

i got a reading of 2.39" but the arms on my caliper mic did not seem to reach all the way down the the widest part of the pipe. i would guess its a little closer to 2.5" i'll try and get the can off in the next few days to get a more accurate reading on it

the pervious owner cut down the yoshi pipe and i think installed that larger pipe too along with a high flow air filter. i think this combination is leaning out the mixture and causing a little bit of a pop out the exhaust. does not pop when the motor is cold but as it warms up it starts to pop out the exhaust. i can make the popping go away by pulling the choke out a little bit or by putting my hand over the can to restrict the exhaust. i think both these actions are causing the mixture to richen up a bit. i am thinking it may just need new jets to flow more fuel. any thoughts?
