Need Help
Went to start my bike this morning and it turned over a couple times and then CRACK. Some loud cracking noise came from my bike and now it will not start. Any ideas or help is much appreciated. Thanks
Its 1997 with around 33,000 miles on it. I just rode it friday night and it was fine. No smoke, nothing unusual. Just all ofa sudden this morning whenI tried to start it.
do you think that it was you timing chain? it sounds like it is ,you have quite a few miles on it. what ever you do DO NOT KEEP CRANKING IT OVER OR YOU COULD BEND THE VALVES. make sure that you rule this out before you try to start it. this had happened to my wifes honda accord it sounds like the same thing.
Well thanks for the help. My dad is a mechanic and he's going to look at it tonight but i thought I would try to get some knowledge from here first. Any other thoughts would be appreciated.
Okay so the weirdest thing just happened. My dad came home and tried to start it and nothing. Wouldn't even turn over. Looked around at a few things and tried again. Fired right up. Turned it off and tried again and it fired right up again. He thinks it may be the starter going bad and the cracking I heard was the starter not ingaging and catching on the teeth. Any suggestions?
Hey there Burk3385
Your problem is a simple one. Your battery doesn't have enough power to run the starter system. That cracking sound is your starter relay not getting enough power to run the stater motor and should be heard coming from under the seat area. The volt meter might read 12v but if your battery is shot then it wont have the amperage to drive the starter well. I had the exact same problem a few months back.
You might wanna think about getting a new battery. Dont worry, your engine and valves are fine.
PS: When you have your new battery, look up some videos on Youtube about battery (charging) maintenance (even for sealed ones). That will help you on prolonging your battery life
