Default Mystery Wire ID

I'm trying to ID a mystery wire on my 1993 900RR. On/near the transmission there is a plug with the name "TDK" on it. It is just hanging on a project bike I purchased recently. Near this plug is the shift pattern 1N23456.

What is the name of the plug? Where does it plug into?

The speedometer cable is also disconnected. Where on the tranmsission do I replug this cable and clip?

I thought people on Vortex had a patent to the "useless without pic" message.

Here the the pics.

The first pic is the wire that is hanging. I'm not sure what it is. Looks like a sensor.

The second pic looks like a speedmeter cable with clip. If so, where on the trans does this
plug in?

I could be wrong, but the second pic looks like your idle screw.

You turn that one to either raise or lower your rpm at idle.

Not sure. I'm no mechanic. [&o]

That might be for the kick stand safty switch ???? It commonly goes bad so maybey they disconnected it? The speedo cable plugs into a gear/hub mechanism on the front wheel and goes up the left fork to the cluster. lOOK up some diagrams on bikebandits of the front wheel and you will get a picture of what you need. If your wheel does not have the provisions for the hub then someone put a wheel of a newer 900rr on your bike.

OK I did check out a few things.

The secondpic is not the kick stand safety switch. Under the bike, near the kickstand, I did find a switch. When moving the kickstand back and forth, the amber light on the cluster goes on and off, so that is working fine. Therefore the saga continues with trying to ID this switch. Could it be a crank sensor? Looks like a knock sensor on a VW.

The first pic is not the speedometer cable. I looked where you asked and the mount is there, but no cable is hooked up. I'll order a cable tonight. Thanks.

I did some additional looking around for the first pic. This cable goes up under or near the cylinder head.

I did order a factory repair manual for the 93-95 900RR. Until it arrives, I'm having fun replacing missing or broken parts.

The first pic looks like a hack job to attach a speedo sensor to the crankshaft...since 93-94 came with only a wheel-mounted cable. Hard to see, though. If it's really an 893cc engine (93-95), there should be no wires at all on the side face of the sprocket cover: the piece of plastic that has the gear sequence stamped on it. BTW, the actual clutch pack is on the other side...

The second one is the idle adjuster...one end plugs into the carbs and the knobby end that you can see is normally held in place by a hook wire, just under the frame.

This is great information. Thanks. The idle adjuster does have a black wire hook on it. I do not see how it is going to hook onto the frame as it is not that long.

How can I tell that size or kind of motor is on the bike? Is there a stamp with showing engine size? Perhaps a VIN number.

Any idea what year/size Honda engine came witha speedo/crank sensor and shift sequence stamped on the left side. The foot peg to shift the gears is on the left too. Should that be on the right as well?

I looked at a few photos on line of a couple of 1996 CBRs. Those bikes have the sensor on the side like mine. If this is indeed an engine from a slightly newer bike, will it cause any problems?
What am I going to do with this wire that has no home?
