Default My current project.

This is a '98 that I picked up almost 2 years ago. It was another victim of having sat for too long. It's been sitting since '01 or '02. I finally found the time to work on it. It was someones pride and joy at one time. Tons of polish and chome work on it. The polished frame and swing arm had gone to hellbut ended up cleaning up rather nicely. This is one of the better polishing jobs I've ever seen. Whoever did it knew what they were doing and really took their time. I wish I could take credit.

I've torn it all down. Cleaned it up. Cleaned the carbs. (they were really nasty). Replaced all of the fluids... fork seals (they weren't leaking but I'm certain they would've been shortly due to non-use) etc....etc....These projects always seem to be never ending but I just can't bare to see these get parted out, which is what was going to happen to this one before I bought it.

I don't have too much left to do, just basically final assembly. I'm out of town for the next couple of weeks but I'll have it up and running a couple of days after I get back provided I don't hit any snags.

Way to save lives Jeff...if only more people felt the same...

Although once something has been polished, it really makes me cringe. I know a lot of people love to look at themselves in their frame, but I've never understood it...but to each their own. I hope you get a lot of satisfaction out of this one, good luck!

Thanks, I personally don't like polish and chrome either. This one will likely find a new homenot long afterI'm done. I have another 900 waiting to be done my way.

I just ran a little Mothers alloy polish on the frame spars today - they looked like dull alloy, but now shine like mirrors. Its a new bike (to me) and I even went to the trouble of cleaning the sprocket and chain. Did my head in a little to find I have a gold coloured chain. Matches the rest of the bike nicely..

I plan to run the living snot out of mine, and wont be spending to much time doing more than a hose off every now and again to keep things shiny. The sad black wheels are crying out for attention on mine.. I might just rattle can them gold or brown to match the bike too, or do the front yellow and the rear orange or something..

I envy people who can rip their bike apart to clean and fuss.. I only ever take a fairing off if I have some issue that really needs it, else I will rig up something that works with it in place..

CJ

PS. Nice bike..!

That's funny, I used to do the same thing. I'd buy a new bike, beat it senseless for a season then finally pressure wash it at the end of the year so it looked clean. Then I'd trade it in and start all over. Back then, I didn't want to work on them at all, I wanted to ride. Replacing a bike every season (mid-season in a couple of cases) was a way to insure that I had nearly zero down time. Now, I enjoy building them as much as I do riding. I find it pretty enjoyable to spend the time in the garage and bring an old rag back to it's former glory.

Id love to change bikes as frequently as my underwear...

I used to ride a 1980 Suzuki GS1000E that needed lots of TLC. I had it two years and had three engines and various heads and valves and pistons in the meantime.. My kids called it "pushy" because I pushed it to start it and pushed it home frequently...!

Then I got a ZX7 and expected just routine attention..Wrong. So I got a Yamaha FZ600 and that just ran and ran and ran. Never once let me down..

I have three bikes right now so at least one of them is in need of a little tinkering and so I keep my hands dirty..I just hate pulling the thing apart to nail something back on to make it out in time for a weekend ride....
