Default Looking into getting a 93, need a little help

Alright. Im looking around at a few 900RR's
I have a few quick questions.
Im buying a bone stock bike. Ill do my own stuff to it.

How many miles is too many? On an original motor. I see a lot with right around 20k on them.

What's a good price to pay for one thats turn-key and not beat to hell and back?

And last but not least. What things should I be looking out for on these older CBR's?
I dont wanna buy a pile of garbage.
Im assuming it will have problems. But thats a given with anything I own.
I just dont wanna overlook a problem that I could have spotted before I threw a guy a wad of cash.

Any help would be great.
Thanks!

PS: Those 3 smilies amused me! lol

I got my '93 with about 21 - 22,000 miles.

Biggest problem was fixing the charging system....bought a new regulator/rectifier and stator and still had problems.

Then I had to buy another r/r because the first one got fried again, and finally had to repair the wiring harness. (the original owners had done a bunch of stuff to it, adding custom kill switches, lights etc)

Myself and even the Honda dealer could not find any brand new wiring harnesses, so they fixed the old one.

I'd also inspect the front/rear rims closely for any dents. My front I think has a very small flat spot.

Hard to say how much mileage is too much, more important to me is how well was the engine/bike maintained?

Was the oil changd regularly? Was the bike raced? etc...

mt is rite on about the REC/stator , this is a common problem on these bikes. i bought my 93 not running for $1000 and put alot of cash in it, mine had 36k mi and did not smoke. soon after gettin her running , she needed a battery , rec/ stator. not hard to replace, i paid about $260 for parts and $160 for batt. i did replace all cables and put in a jet kit,K/N , and a jardine pipe.rebuilt the carbs during the process.did a sync. and bike ran great. Ijust sold mine for $2600. I lost money on her. great old bikes, but be willin to wrench on it.
