Jetkits and and aftermarket exhausts
Can anyone tell me why do you need to jet carbs once an aftermarket exhaust is installed? Wouldnt stock carbs work just fine on a aftermarket exhaust? I know from word of mouth that the carbs have to be jetted but I dont know why.
Just some info needed, as my carbs are really troublesome. This is the only trouble I have with my bike. Every time I fix something on my carbs, something else goes wrong with it. Im thinking of replacing the entire carb tray but the one that I am looking at is non-jetted.
Thanks for the info in advance

I put a full D&D on my 900rr and it ran awesome with stock carbs except when giving it extreme gas then letting off it would back fire a little bit then clear up. not a big deal but i still had it jetted. im no mechanic so i had a local shop do it for 175 bucks. i believe they had to make mine run a little richer not sure what size jet i'll have to ask. good luck
It has to do with the fuel air mixture and the exhaust flow rate. Your new exhaust will flow at a different rate than stock causing you to run too lean or too rich depending on your current jetting, altitude and air filter. On some bikes just going to a higher flow air filter will cause you to have to rejet the carbs. If you want it to run good and take advantage of the new power available from the new parts you might need to rejet.
Oh and for jet kits look at factory kits

That would make sense now. I remember on another post someone triend to put some SRad intakes on a CBR but there was a huge dicussion on how that would impact on the carbs of a 900RR, thats why the carb intakes are tacked away to keep the airflow and pressure constant. No I would guess as you put on a aftermarket airfilter and exhaust, the air would flow more rapidly and freely compared to the stock ones and that would impact the mixture as well.
