Question I know it's been beaten like a red headed stepchild,......

But I have searched, and searched. And found crap. Actually, I have found everything but what I wanted to know....:

What year F3 front wheel will fit a 96/97 900rr with NO MODIFICATIONS WHATSOEVER?

Imore to the point, I'm looking to see if a 96 f3 rim is the one I want- I think it is, but for the life of me, I can't find definitive proof. Hopefully someone on here has done it and knows-
Thanks a bunch to all who looked at this thread!!

Doesn't matter, just make sure its an F3, I see alot of poeple sellling F2 rims as F3s cause they look the same. On your year its a direct swap using your original spacers.

Would that also be the wheel to fit a '93?

Isn't there something about it only working on the 96/97 because the 93/95 have the speedo cable in the front axle/wheel, and the 98/99 having the wider fork spacing????
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not too sure it'll fit the early 900rrs-

IIRC , thats correct.

93/94 RRs have the speedo and take a different wheel

then you have 95,96,97 next take thier own wheel due to fork spacing

then you have 98/99 , again for the same.

Is there a take off 17" wheel that will work on a '93 then, and possibly match the style of the original? I think i read somewhere that a vfr wheel would work, but don't remember seeing what yr it would need to be?

I'm no expert but I don't think there is a drop wheel for that year.

Doesn't mean you can't do it but your going to have to deal with the speedo. Something like the mentioned F3 wheel, make your own spacers and delete the stock speedo sending unit. So then youd have to switch to the later sending unit from the 98/99 in the gear cover and I would guess pick up one if the speedo correction units to dial it in. (Speedohealer for example )

Why go thru the hassle of a 17" swap? How often do you need to replace the front tires? How long are you planning on keeping the bike? There are quite a few name brand tire company that offer
16" ....unless you are 100% sure, don't do it...make better use of your time & money. Unless you receive confirmation from members here say YES, do it...if maybe? Don't...that's my 2 cent. Just replace the 16" and ride!!
