Help with rectifier.....I think..........
Hello,
let me just cut to the chase. my 900rr has an electrical problem. The old rectifier regulator used to do this as well, i think.
alright, my bike hold's a charge when off, but as soon as i run the bike for longer than 30-45 minutes, it drains all power, and i can't restart the bike. I can't figure out what the heck it is. The only thing that i think is wrong with it, is the actual wiring to the regulator when i wired it up, i think i wired it up wrong. but even if i did wire it up wrong, would it even turn at all? Is there anyway i can see the wiring diagram to the actual rectifier, or can anyone actually tell me what color wires go to which tab on the regulator itself(sounds ghetto i know)? i know that 3 red wires go to the bottom 3 tabs, but there are 2 larger different colored wires going to the larger top tabs if im correct. I need to get this fixed somehow because i can't ride my 900rr long distances because if i do, when i go restart the bike and i'm 20 miles away from home, it wont turn............

The 3 bottom tabs go to the generator in the motor. The other two go to the battery. Green is ground. Check what voltage the battery has without the motor running. Then check how many volts are there with the motor running. It should be 13.5 volts or higher at 5000 rpms. If it isn't, you not providing enough voltage to charge the battery.
It sounds like the battery isn't getting charged while you are running the bike. Perhaps you have the ground and positive wires switched, but I couldn't be sure.
