Default Help! New guy with a ??

Hello everyone. I posted on the new member thread yesterday and am gonna go ahead and dive in to my first of hopefully not too many questions here.
First off, I just picked up a 93 900RR last weekend at a real nice price but the electrical system is currently down. I am pretty competent in a 12volt system but just want to see what you guys think about this.
The R/R is totally fried. Furthermore, the wires coming out are burnt to a crisp for about 4-5 inches. But they are completely intact as the head into the main harness so hopefully that wont need to be replaced.
Now, all the fuses up top (fairing), check out for continuity on a meter. I didn't have time to check the main 30A before having to leave for work, but I did get a reading of 12v on the red/white wire coming out of R/R, so logic tells me that the main is good.
So to the questions. 1.) What do you think the odds are that the stator got toasted at the same time as the R/R? and 2.)Shouldn't I still be getting lights, ign, ect. from the battery power even if the R/R is disconnected or does that complete a circuit?
Thanks for reading this long post!

That sucks man. same thing happened to mine.
I replaced the rectifier and it lasted a day or so then toasted itself again. so i pull the stator to find that some of the insulation on the stator had rubbed through and it was shorting against itself internally, and from there toasting the rectifier.
dont stress about wiring the wires from the stator go directly to the rectifier so the is no main harness to worry about its all one piece right up to the connector.
Also i may be wrong ( as usually happens ) but i do think you need the rectifier in place to complete the circuit........ now if i could just find that manual i could tell you for sure

Well I decided to dive in a little deeper last night and cut out all the charred wiring and replaced it with new. The previous owner had speaker wire running for a 5" length on all three stator output wires. If that isnt bad enough, they were butt-connectors on one side and huge cold solder joints on the other. So I fixed all that and then started tracing where power was going and sure enough the 30A main was blown from when the reg. melted and grounded out. So I replaced that and threw a trickle charge on the battery and then 10 minutes later, she's alive and running with all lights functioning perfectly. I even metered the stator wires for ground continuity and resistance and it checked out fine. I was showing a solid 50-80v on them at 5k, so I'm confident it wont need replacing.
So needless to say, I am having a hard time taking this big sh** eatin grin off my face. The dealership told the kid I bought it off that it was gonna take $1800 in parts and labor to get it running. Well, 2 hours of my own time and a fuse and R/R later Im gonna be good to go. I think this is gonna be the best $500 I ever spent.
Thanks for the reply yesterday too.
