1 of 3...

Make sure you have a manual guide before tearing it apart...

+1 on having a manual, also the OTHER golden rule:

Have a CLEAN AREA TO WORK ON THEM! I'm not saying dirt and debris is going to end up in the carbs, I'm saying if you are like 90% of the guys who fix their own bikes, there is s#!t EVERYWHERE in the garage, and if a spring, or tiny little screw drops, you're screwed! Just make sure your work area is clear and tidy so you can keep good track of things.
Also, another tip once you commit to tearing them down all the way, is to leave one carb alone- clean the three of them, ad do the fourth last, only after you have one back together. this lets you see if you need to exactly how the go back together in case you get horribly distracted.

Trust me- it can happen!!!

Default Motor oil

For starters, I want to say THANKS for the help about the starting issue.

I cleaned the carbs and replaced the plugs and this thing runs like a top. I am so pumped about this purchase.

Now, the next question is about the engine oil. I see alittle sight window down where the clutch cover is at. Is that for the tranny fluid, the motor oil or both???? There is also a filler tube there. Is that for the engine oil, tranny or both?

Where is the drain plug? How many quarts and of what recommended oil.

I have already done the antifreeze, and all the brake fluids. All I need to do is the oil in the tranny and engine now.

Thanks again guys, this is AWESOME..........

Not sure if the last message made it or not.

I really appreciate the advice from you guys about the bike.

I cleaned the carbs and replaced the plugs and the bike runs like a top !!!

I have a new question. It is time to change the fluids.

Is the tranny and engine the same fluid change? I see a little sight window by the clutch cover and an oil fill above that. Where do I drain the oil, fill the oils, how much oil and what kind of oil?

I am really pumped about getting this bike running and feeling alot better about the purchase.

Thanks again guys.

The tranny & engine share the same oil

To change the oil:

Remove the lower fairings
Warm the motor to operating temp
Remove the Oil Fill cap
Unscrew the bottom drain bolt using a 17mm socket
Have a pan positioned underneath to catch the old oil
Unscrew the old oil filter
Re-install the 17mm oil drain bolt
Pour some Honda GN4 oil inside the new filter to pre-soak it
Screw the new oil filter on
Pour 3.8 quarts of GN4 oil into the Oil Fill opening
Replace the Oil Fill cap
Center the bike upright and look at the glass window to see if the level is between the High and Low markings, if it isnt, proceed to pour more oil into the oil fill cap
Place the engine cutoff switch to the "OFF" position, and crank the motor over for a few seconds to distribute the fresh oil
Profit....
