Full Synthetic instead of Conventional?

What's up all? Lurked for a while, but just registered today. Looking forward to posting pics of myongoing project of a'94 900, getting ideas and tips as well.
Today, I'm going to do a oil and filter (K&N)change w/ Pennzoil 10-30 full synthetic, replace my pads and do general maintenance on her. I was going to remove the wheels to add some fresh rubber, but the tires andfront stand made the price of the other stuff I bought come out too high, so I opted to get them later. I do need some tires, but can wait a few weeks to do so.
When I first got this bike, it had the 2nd gear problem. I had it fixed and have not changed the oil since July. It hasn't been3k miles yet, but just feel it needs to be changed because the new gears are in there now.
Is it ok to go with the full synth yet? Should I even bother and just use a good conventional oil? I'm not married to the synthetic idea, just want to put the good stuff in.

what is the mileage of the bike? i went fully syn (amsoinl motorcycle oil) around 10k and now i am at 30k and it still runs like a champ. as long as your bike isnt under around 5k miles then it should be fine,
JonBrown
P.S. the reason i use AMSOIL is because, supposidely it can "rev higher" than other oil, so might want to look into that.

Sounds like you bought motor oil for a car. 10w30 is normally for use in a car, 10w40 is the standard for our bikes. And I'm pretty sure pennzoil only makes a conventional oil for motorcycles, not a synthetic motorcycle oil. The moto oil from pennzoil says Pennzoil Outdoor and has a picture of a little motorcycle.
I have used castrol 4t moto oil since I first bought it. I'm probably one of the few left on the forum who use dino oil for their bikes from the way it sounds.

Welcome!
I don't know at what mileage you should change to synthetic, but keep in mind that certain high performance cars already come with Mobil-1 full synthetic oil from the factory.
My '93 900rr has about 23,000 miles and I just wentto Mobil-1 High Mileage. Had a very hard time getting the filter off though, so I had to buy a filter remover.
Good luck!
