Default Fuel Pump (yes or no)

Someone keeps posting to remove the fuel pump and I can see it getting gravity fead to half tank but the tank bottom is lower then the carbs. with a full tank it will probably work but I think the fuel pump was put there for several reasons otherthen the tank bottom lower then the carbs. Who else has removed there fuel pump and has had better results. Thanks Johnny

There are some things that manufactures (Honda) will not put on a bike to cut costs. So, with that said, if they spend the money to put something on the bike it is probably for a good reason. If the bike runs better w/o the fuel pump (if it runs at all) I'd be really shocked.

Yes the bike will run without a fuel pump.. But on the big end above 150 it will tend to studder and fall on its face. I have a 1997 that has no fuel pump on it but im into the turns more then top end runs.I have donea couple of runs just to see what she would do and never had a problem, but i didnt hold it open for long. I live in Florida so all the people i ride with that stretch them out and ride wide open all say they needed the fuel pump tokeep the bike running on the big end.. Here is the flip side to the fuel pump thats kinda weird. If you ride alot of wheelies for some strang reason the fuel pump causes the bike to studder at 12 oclock?Well thats all i got either way the bike will run all 900rr are different so you will have to try it each way and see what happens. 900rr's do like bigger fuel lines tho ( inner diameter ) . If you need pics ill send some of mine and what ive done .
Good luck let us know how it works.

you can use one of the two hoses from the fuel pump to run a direct line, it fits perfectly. i thought the same thing at first, that it wouldn't work becausethe petcock waswaslowerthan the carbs, but that doesn't matter because the tank is higher than the carbs. try it, i guarantee the bike will run better at all speeds and if you don't like it, it takes like 15min to change it back. trust

My 1996 900RR came from the factory with no fuel pump, and it seems to run just fine. I think only the 1993 to 1995 900RR's had an electric pump. It has a vacuum operated petcock (vacuum line goes from the petcock to the cylinder head). You may have to change out to the 1996 to 1999 petcock to make it work properly.

Hey guys, I appreciate all the info and especially the last one where the bike came without the pump. I will try it without the pump. Thanks Johnny

I think my 99 has afuel pump though, it has the hose coming off the petcock(theround section o it) and hook in just under the carbs on the motor. Is it not supposed to be there? Also has two lines coming off the bottom of the rear of the tank in the center(one bigone little), what are these?

have'nt had experience with '99, but i'm sure it'ssimilar. as for the two hoses, the small one is breather and thelargeoverflow.
