Default First post, New Bike, Potential Problem?

I picked up a 96 900RR w/19k from the local bike shop took it off the truck rolled it into the garage. It is about 30 degrees out, i started it. It fired right up but had an awfull knocking sound. i guess the best way to describe it is gears clanking but shortly after it warmed up the noise was gone. started several times no noise let it cool of start it noise.. took it back to dealer mechanic says this is normal for this bike..

Are they right is there a normal metalic knocking on cold startups? I cant tell you much more than above as i didn't ride it but to the end of the driveway and back.. its like 20 degrees out snow and sinders on the road.

This bike lookes very clean. I took one look at this machine and said shes mine.

Probably the cam chain tensioner needs replacing. check youtube for vids of the sound and check this site or google for guides on replacing it.

I've heard they will knock for a bit until oil reaches the top of the head and saturates it, quieting the sound. It should be normal. I know the paranoid feeling and how sensitive the ear gets when youre looking for a problem.

picked it up from the shop and they said they went over the bike and it is fine. took it home and unloaded it fired the bike to put it in the garage same thing but queted down much sooner so maybe it's just till the oil gets up in the head. we had 50 degrees today bet extremely windy. Looking forward to friday going to make it to 60 so maybe i'll be able to take her for a ride.
