Default Choke Won't Stay On

So the first little quirk I’ve noticed with my 1 day old bike is the choke lever won't stay up. I pull it up and it slowly falls back down in about 5 seconds. I can hold it up in place but I’m sure that will get old real fast so does anyone know what the problem might be? By the way its a 96 900, thanks.

MIne is the same way, it almost seems that rubber that should be holding it in place is old and doesn't grip it hard enough. I don't use chock anyway, I just keep the revs at 3k or so for about minute and it idles on it's own after that.

on my 98, under the **** that you pull up is a rubber cap like thing that the rod goes through. if you turn that rubber cap it is threaded and the more you tighten it the more friction it applys to the rod making the **** stay up. that is how it works on my 98 im not sure if the older ones are like that or not. good luck, monsy.

My 99 did the same thing. Think of it as an automatic fast idle lever. Pull it to get it going and then let it come down on it's own. Then it's not idling through the roof as it warms up.

If all else fails use a little hairspray on theshaft and the choke plunger will stay up.

Yep, its "normal". I fiddled around with mine (also a '96) thinking something was wrong but that's what it is.

True enough.....it has gravity coupled with vibration working against it......it's bound to fall down as it vibrates.

I guess we all have the same issue... have you tried the hair spray mentioned above?!?!

Nah, I'm not spraying hair spray on my bike. I guess I'll use gixxereater's advice. I just always thought you were supposed to leave the choke on for a minute or two.
