Look at it like this, our bikes hold maybe 5 gallons at the most. If 87 octane is 2 dollars a gallon, you'll spend 10. Higher grade would be 2.20 (usually) so you'll spend 11. Not much of a difference so why not?

I don't really think it makes that much of a difference imo lol. I run 87 in my Camaro, no problems. I just throw premium in the bike since it only has a 5 gallon tank lol

I'm sure the compression ratio for the 900rr's calls for 91+ as it does for the 600's. It's not just a matter of which gas seems "better" but what's correct for the application.

87,89, 91-94 octanes all have a different burn rate and work differently in the motor. Unless you have an adjustable timing rotor, don't go with lower octane than is recommended for the bike.

91+ premium/supreme is not only the best, but it's right
