Default CBR 900RR Mileage

I am thinking of selling my 2000 F4 and buying this 1999 CBR 900rr. I will make a couple bucs on the deal, but the 900rr has 44K miles on it and i am wondering if that is too much?

I know it all depends on how it was cared for, but i am thinking mechanically wise like when is it time for a new engine, etc.

Does anyone have any insight on this?

That is a lot of miles but I'd rather have one thats ridden regulary with realistic miles than one that has sat alot.

Other than that , that engine is pretty wear resistant if it wasn't abused and has been properly maintained (valve adjustements/etc).

That's nothing on one of these. I had a '98 last summer with 80k on it, the summer before I had a '99 with 65k. I've had several others with 30-40. I have seen one that had 216,000. I talked with that guy a while. He said he had the motror freshened up at 160k because it "just didn't have as much power as it used to"...lol.... Anyway, I would obviously check over any older bike pretty well but I have had enough 900RRs to not let miles scare me off at all.

i love my 900rr i've 2 of em so far and love em both. my current bike used to be my stunk bike. i put about 30.000 miles beating the leaving crap out of it, made the bike street legal and so far i've put 15.000 more miles on it beating the s*** out of it too, taking to red line everyday. its still runnning strong.

44K is nothing, I had well over 55k on my 84 zx900a and it ran like a top. As long as it was maintained it GTG

I'm not too far behind at 37k miles. Still pretty low really.

I have 36k on mine and have now raced it on the track 11 times hitting the rev limiter dozens of times. I do have a bad rattle at idle clutch out. When I pull the clutch in it goes away..just the baskets and talking to other 900rr racers it is common and after they replaced the baskets it started again soon after. The only other problem is the voltage regulator gets hot and melts the plug. This machine still gives me a rush under W.O.T.

The clutch rattle is a common feature (I won't call it a problem because it isn't) and like you say, if you change it the new one starts to rattle soon after.

The charging system is known to be a little fragile, I've had a new R/R on mine.

The only other thing I have heard of causing problems is the cam chain tensioner, although mine seems OK still.

mine rattels a little it seams to come and go it def. gose when clutch is pulled in. i have a 99 so the ignition problem isnt so bad and i bought a finned reg/rec on ebay for 15 dollars brand new the guy had 70 of them last i checked and it almost eliminates the over heating problem. mine had the stock reg/rec on it and made it to 40,000 and died this year on my last ride pulling in my drive lol. but other than that nothing has went. and when you have the valves done they have to pull the timing chain slider/adjuster out to do it so just have your mechanic check it while its out if its worn from the chain sliding on it have him replace it.
