Default bike left me stranded

Charging issue left me with a dead bike up north in the rockies. All I got is the blackberry to search for info. Only have a cresent wrench and parts need to be overnighted $$$. Where is the regulator/rectifier onthese bikes? I got a body kit so my seat doesn't come off either, its all one molded piece from fuel tank to tail light. This was my first "big" trip on this bike 2000km. Have a flight to catch saturday morning.
I thought hondas didn't do this?

The 900RR is notorious for regulator/rectifier problems. If your seat does not come off and the body kit is all one piece, then you are going to have troubles. It is located on the right side of the subframe.

If you unplug all of your lights you can probably get a tank of gas on a charge. Also, if you can push start the bike. starting it uses a lot of juice. I had the same problem. It also helps to keep the bike above 5k on your tach. Just make sure you keep it pegged when you come to a stop and you should be fine. Also, if you are close to a town and need gas, just stop and charge it as you don't want it to die in the middle of nowhere.

Well parts are on the way, $380cad for regulator and battery plus more for labour. Parts get expensive when you need them

Oh boy, I hope you can get it fixed soon. I can't count how many times my '93 900rr left me stranded after the battery died because the charging system wasn't working.

Last time it was at the very start of a huge bike cruise with hundreds of bikes.

I was left stranded in the parking lot while all the other bikes began to take off.

Not a good feeling. Keep us posted on updates, and I wonder if there is a way to cut out an opening in your body kit so that you have easier access to those parts.

Did get the bike fixed. Took a regulator and a new battery, parked it for the winter now. Did get some real good riding in going through the canyon in bc. Any body use the $40 regulator on ebay from hong kong? Work well?

Wow this is too funny.. Unplug the lights, push start the bike, don't turn over 5k? Really? It would be way easier to spend 60 bucks on a battery and a hundred on an R/R and not have worry @ all. I mean these parts are the cost of admission when owning a bike, just like a new chain and sprockets.

Of course you spend the money and get it fixed, but if you are stranded and don't have the option of having parts these are steps that one can take. My stator burnt out half way through a 1700mile trip on Sunday of Memorial day weekend. I couldn't wait two days for a honda shop to open and then possibly not have parts. That is how I got home.
