Is a big bore kit worth the money on a 900RR

I found a couple of kits that seemed to be pretty darn good. I a trying to imiprove the overall power of the bike without using NOS on it. I have been getting several different answers concerning this question so i figured i would post in here because from what i have seen most of the users are very knowledgable.

My goal is to run with a 1000RR as a sleeper not neccessarly beat one but to just run with the pack when they start to hit 165-175 mph on the freeway.

 

a 900 wont be that far behind in most riding situations against 1000's....sure, the 900 never win but why are u on the streets at 160+mph??...is it really worth it??....if u like to ride like that u should take it on a track before someone else gets hurt.....u would be better off doing suspension mods first and then only do a big bore kit if u are rebuilding the motor cause its blown and in this case i would just find a good running 900 for cheap and replace it....the 900 has more power then most people can use.....good luck

 

What year 900rr are you thinking of doing big bore kit on? 93-95 or 96-99? I have a 95 893 big bore to a 945cc, currently blown up AGAIN!! Will cost me $1000+ to rebuild motor after only +/- 2500 miles, after the inital $4500 it cost to have the original work done. Crank work and balancing work...... too damn much to list!! In my opion...not really worth all the problems I have...but on the other hand, Khien flat slides and a 945 BBK killed 1000rr's!

 

The purpose of the kit is mostly to seattle a couple of grudges at the track.

Y lie I crack the whip on the street some times but only on empty backroads with clear visability for at least a mile or so. And yes places like this do exist where i live (Alabama yes the down south). But since a recent event me and my other club members have attempted to strictly limit our racing to the track. The reason is because it is a safer and more controled enviroment for us to run our bikes at high speeds without worrying about other drivers or potholes, etc.

The reason that i am interested in the big bore kit is to show my butt at the track against most of the bigger bikes out their. Two to show my butt every blue moon when we are on a deserted strip of road and decide that we want to get loose.

What i don't want to do is spend a ton of money and not get any real results

 

You will get the results but you will also spend the money! With the big bore kit the crank needs to rebalanced and lightened to accomidate the larger pistons. With all this work you might consider head work too. But after you spend aprox 5G's, you will achive the goal you are after!! My 893 BB to 945 with the flat slide carbs, was pulling ANY bike that I came across!!

 

Not worth it in my opinion. You will have to spend an ungodly amount of $ to achieve what the current literbikes are making now. You could bore to a 945 but parts alone will cost you about $1,000. Thats without labor, just boring your cases and the pistons. That might be worth 10 - 15 hp. Boring the bike is useless without headwork and cams. All in all you may easily be looking at $4k if done right. Remember, 06 gixxer 1k's and 06 10r's regularly dyno in the area of 165 + hp bone stock. You just might dyno around 145 - 160 if done right.

Not worth it to me.

 

What a big bore kit?
I'm new. I have a 1999 cbr900 and would like to up the performance a bit.
What do you reccommend i do? Price does have a limit.

I have a 2005 CBR1000 for the real fun. The 900 just a "do dumb stuff with toy/ stunt bike"
