Hi guys, im looking into buying a 900rr could anyone give me some idea of the comfort and any ups and downs of this specific model. Thanks martin

 

I'm 5' 10"...185lb....got a 94 cbr900..stock seats are softer, very comfortable. Sitting on the bike, knees bent...no tip toes...easy to push around, super light weight...ridden 60+ mile 120 round trip...no back paint or sore ****... But during twisties, more aggressive leans, **** does tend to slide a bit, stock seat does not grip you ****....then install a Corbin seat....100% turn the bike into drag.... **** ain't moving anywhere

 

More realistic, it is a hefty bike compared to todays liter bikes, but still a very good bike! I'm 6'4" 200lbs, and the bike isn't a bear to deal with, but it's not a sport-tourer either. I have aftermarket clip ons, so that makes it worse, but I rode it recently on about a 200 mi ride with minimal discomfort. I've also taken it to vegas from palm springs,(250/300 mi one way?) and here again, I didn't want to kill anyone once I reached vegas.
It's a very spirited ride, tends to "drop in" in the turns pretty nice, and if set up correctly, is an all around pleasure to ride!
And it's a DAMN GOOD LOOKIN BIKE!

 

Also, Pay special attention to the charging system, and second gear- these bikes have a bit of notoriety for the charging sys- the regulator/rectifier in particular.. tire choice is also a bit of a deterrent- 16" fronts limit your choices. (17" is typical nowadays on sporties)

boyley2, don't be concerned with the weight of the bike. Even almost 20 years later, it is still on par with newer bikes. Brakes, horsepower, and steering geometries are where they leave us in the dust.


1993 900RR = 461lbs wet

2010 Aprilia RSV4 R = 473lbs wet
2010 BMW S 1000RR = 461lbs wet
2010 CBR1000RR = 442lbs wet
2010 Kawa ZX-10R = 462lbs wet
2010 Yama YZF-R1 = 477lbs wet

 

Good info scutfargas...you can easily shed some weight here & there...I've replaced my stock pipe with a carbon fiber Yoshi then weight in alot less. Replace most of the 6mm screw with an aluminum set by HP, aluminum stay, solo seat & I have not even made time to shed to rear passenger pegs...so weight is lie what you said, not an issue...the OG blade is still keep up after so many years later.

 

The 1998/9 model was actually down to 447lbs wet. Hardly hefty.

I'd say raw horsepower is the only difference you'll notice on the street and that comes at the cost of longevity and longterm reliability. Quite a reasonable trade off IMO.
