96 cbr900rr mods to get...
Hey,
My buddy has a 96 900rr with 98 fairings on it... Anyway, he Was looking at upgrading and getting an 02 954 for 5500.00. the bike he has now has about 14,500 miles on it. I told him before he goes looking for another bike he should look into mods. i am aware that modding this bike can make it just as good or better then the 954 which is what i am telling him... The only disadadvantage is carb vs efi, 954 has a little more power and better throttle response.
What kind of mods can be done to wake up the 900rr even more? hes got some type of exhaust on it i cannot remember which one but its a full exhaust, but i told him first things first, get the carbs cleaned and get the valves adjusted and go from there..
Intake kits? Jet kits? gearing of some type?
Its a silver/chrome paint colored bike.
Thanks
Joe
EDIT: The 954 that is for sale has a power commander, Gpr steering stabilizer, -1 tooth on front sprocket, shift kit... (what ever that is... short throw?) K+N air filter, and new tires.

how is the handling of the 954 compared to the 900 is my question, ultimately they will all get to those insane speeds that makes us all grin madly with power, but its no use if you can't control or stop.....those would be my personal questions
actually that is what i'm currently working on, making my baby handle as closely as possible to the newer more agile bikes(i know thats a loooong stretch, but hey why not )

Yea, i was basically looking at it from an engine displacement point of view... 918cc vs 954. I dont know the differences in power and handling between the two... is there a power commander equivalent for carbed bikes like this one? i don't think he would wanna do a big bore... Hes looking for more cosmetic up grades and some performance... for the occasional track days.
I'm more at home and know the 2004 and newer model bikes then these older ones... couldnt tell ya the mods to get for the bikes like these.
thanks.

The airbox mod is removing the stock panel filter, gutting the stock airbox (including dremeling out some of the plastic), and installing 2 individual cone filters on the ram air duct inlets.
Personally, I like Factory Pro because their customer service is A LOT better. When I spoke with DynoJet they treated me very poorly and like my business didn't matter to them. Talk with Factory Pro, then you will see how much they know and why you should go with their product. Their cluttered website aside - they are a great company to work with.
Oh - I am not associated with Factory Pro at all - I just like their products, thus why I have their whole line of parts.
