Default 900rr Should i get it?

Hey im pretty new to the on-road bike scene, anyways im looking at a 1998 cbr900rr i might buy this afternoon, Im not sure if its a good deal though i was hoping you experts could get me some input.... Anyways like i said its a 98 its got custom undertail exhaust, fender eliminator, aftermarket brake rotors, full showa adjustable suspension, BMW blue headlits, a custom paint job, plus hes throwing in new tires two riding jackets and his custom painted helmet. I checked it out the other day it was dead cold and started right ip sounded and ran great, i didnt ride it though it was raining, anyways the deal would be trading my dirtbike plus 1300 cash, my dirtbikes worth about 2800 so i figure ill be out about 4100.... how does that sound???? thanks.... heres a picture also

Bike looks nice... just check a few minor details....
1) look at the steering stops and see if there are any "dents" this means the bike went down hard if it does have "dents". (located on the neck of the frame)
2) check the tranny before you buy this bike, test the tranny in second gear under a load than off the power and see what happens, and see how it shifts, noisey or quiet. Check to see after you accelerate and get off the wick if it stays in gear or "jumps out".
3) check the title (salvage or rebuild) or clear.

Otherwise the deal sounds sweet! What kind of dirt bike will you be getting rid of?

anyone else have any input???

I would be concerned about the cam and head. Why? Ask them that. Alot of times it's a race motor, not always a good street motor or at least a sure sign of a fairly hard life. Pretty fair market value at that price. Not a real DEAL, but a fair price. It's also been custom painted. Why? Some people paint their bike because they like that, but most are redone because of a fall. Just a couple of things. Otherwise, looks nice. They are fun bikes for sure. Good luck.

Im getting rid of my 03' RM 250, fun bike but for right now i want to try being on the road for a while see how that goes... I checked everything over, he says the reason he painted it is because he paints all his bikes that color because its unique, the only time he said its been down was at about 5 mph but the left frame slider saved everything it looks like... Now hes trying to get 1500 on top of my dirtbike, should i do it or stick with the original 1300 and see what happens? He also tells me the head and cam were just play mods to get a little more pop, and let me say this the damn thing hauls *** maybe a little too much but guess ill grow into it.... thanks

Good price, assuming nothing is wrong with it. I'd be all over it like eyeshadow on a fat girl.

However, anyone that jacks up their price after their initial price is worthless. I'd lowball the hell out of him. Only suckers pay asking price anyways. And after the insult of an inflated price, I'd come back with a lower than normal amount. I'm thinking I'd show up with $3800 in cash, and show him $3700. Actually, I think I'd just give my "friend" the finger and go buy something else. Yeah, that's what I'd do. Just for spite and ideals. Or blow up your bike before you trade him. That really pisses me off. Go buy something else.

Just for reference... I bought my yellow '98 for like $3900 and got a great deal on it. Pretty much completely stock and unmolested. Just a tinted windscreen. Beautiful bike, aside from the dent in the tank. I bought the aftermarket cams for something like $200 on ebay.

That happened to me AFTER i sold my 900. I was going to buy an 05 ZX-10R with 1500 miles for $6400, sold my bike showed up with cash and this guys wife says she wants more. $7500. Well, I was pissed, they are the proud owners of a Ninja they want to sell, but cant and I got a better deal on GSX-R. Dont go for the price hike. That **** pisses me off too.

The bike has some cool mods, (love that exhaust) check the mts on the fairings and swingarm play , also signs of abuse or a drop. Fireblades are fun, if its as good as it sounds , I promise youll be happy with it, the points on your licence may not be though!

You'll put many more of them to shame too as long as you keep her standing upright!
