Default 1998 900rr trouble starting, and plug gap?

hey there so heres my deal, it sat all winter in minus 30degree weater as i am from canada, i got it running about a week ago with a few issues but it did start, yesterday i whent to start it and it just turns over and backfires very loud everynow and then, so i drained the fuel and put premium in it with octane booster and it still wont start! and help guys? im thinking plugs is next but i need the plug gap? anyone know it? thanks

If they hven't been replaced in a while, I would just go ahead and throw some new ngk's in there. They may be fouled out. If they are fairly new, you can take a lighter to the end them to try to clean up the old plugs. I'm not sure exactly what the gap is tho, I had the same problem this winter, (wouldn't start and would only backfire) and when I threw in new plugs, fired right up.

You might also try leaving your plugs out overnight, doing the lighter thing to try to burn the junk off the plug, and try to start it again tomorrow since it's probably flooded right now

The gap is .8-.9 mm or 0.031-0.035 in

Cool someone beat me too it lol, I just took one out and measured it and it was .9mm lol

hers a tip pull your plug caps about a 1/2 inch up this generates a stronger spark and rev it up until the bike starts running good works for me

How do you rev an engine that hasn't started?

And I see you prefer creating mis-fires by pulling the plugs caps up?
