16 to 17" front conversion
Hi,
I've seen some posts that suggest to do a 17" conversion on the CBR900.
Apparently U can use the CBR600F3 front rim to replace the 16" stock rim.
U just swap over the discs.
My question is what to do about the front fender because I suspect that the wheel isn't going to fit under the fender?

RE: 16 to 17" front conversion
So I did some searching around but everybody is just arguing whether it's better or worse to put a 17" front rim.
When the blades first came out the 16" was suppose go give it better handling but and now everybody says it's better to go for the 17" but I won't get into that argument...
My only reason for the change is that in South Africa those 16" tyres are beginning to get quite scares so I need to make a plan...
I own a F3 and I saw that the rims are the same but I still need to figure out what to do about the fender so if anyone has done this mod some advise would be welcome
Thanks

Humm, pretty kool idea, I never thought that it can be changed since I too cant find ant 16" fronts. Anyways, I can imagine that it'll be like normale car tires? If you +1 in Rim size you -1 in tire wall, but I dont know if they have that many option for motorcycles..

RE: 16 to 17" front conversion
I have replaced the 16" front with a 17" from an f3 on my 96 900rr ..........No problem
If you run a 120/60/17 you have plenty of room (7/8") to the fender
I bought another 17" to put sticky tires on for track days.
When I run 120/70/17 things get pretty tight. They don't rub, but if you pick up a rock you'll here it running through the fender.
I think michellin sells a 120/65/17 that I may try next
I moved the forks up into the tripple about 1.5mm
I found a place that will sandblast and powdercoat for 50$ per wheel.

RE: 16 to 17" front conversion
So if I understand U correctly. The hight of the front-end will stay more or less the same with a 120/60/17 so I don't have to adjust the clamps on the shocks?
So before I go out and bye the rim. Lets just recap...
I need a F3 rim.
All I need to do is swap the F3 discs with my old discs of the 16" rim and then it fits directly with no mods?

RE: 16 to 17" front conversion
That is correct. The "60" is the aspect ratio ( rim diameter to outside circumference ).
The front end ride height will be appx. the same.
The "trail" will be slightly different. This in theory will slow the steering. That is why I raised the forks 1.5mm. to compensate.
The f3 rims have the same bolt pattern for the rotors.
I have purchased 2 f3 rims and are currently using them on my 96cbr 900rr, not a problem.

Just a word of caution...if you own a 93-94 900RR, the swap to a 17" wheel is not recommended. You will have no speedometer hookup.
And if you own a 98-99, you will need to manufacture spacers for the brake discs and on the axle.
But you guys are right, 95-97 is pretty much bolt on, no problem...even the older VFR 17" works too.
