Default 09' 600 vs. 99 900RR

I was looking into getting a newr bike, and i notice that the CBR 600 is a pretty sweet bike for the price, i also notice the HP is almost the same, question is Stock vs stock, which would win in a race.

That like asking what oil to use. It's a loaded question. Bases on purely on statistics, the 1999 900rr (919) makes 128hp and weighs about 450 pounds wet, The 600rr weighs 410 pounds wet, and makes about 120hp with less torque. Comparing the bikes on a track with equal driver, 600rr wins hands down. It's lighter, easier to throw around and get in and out of corners with. However I think this means nothing. The 900rr is going to have ALOT better street manners, its going to be more comfortable, and it has a classic look.

If you are looking for a bike thing to consider; FIRST AND FOREMOST-riding experience! If you have never been on a bike I personally wouldn't recommend EITHER of these two bikes maybe a 600 f4i for the street or a older 600 that will be "ok" if you drop it and parts are easier to replace. as well as if having a better learning curve for a first timer. the noobie mistakes that you WILL make as a first time rider won't effect you as much on a lower powered 600, and it has probably more power than you would ever be able to use on the street. Any dummy with a license can go fast in a straight line. Its keeping speed and enjoying yourself in the twisties that is the hard part to learn. However If you are a good rider and have experience, either are good choices, the 600rr will be the better bike but the 900 will be the cheaper bike to maintain.
But I regress why exactly do you want to know?
Hope this helps.

That helps it was pretty much an open question, thanks for the insight, i already have a 900RR but i like the gain in HP of the newer bikes, but i like the size of the older bikes becasue i am a tall and stocky guy the new bikes even the 1000 looks small, but the 600 has the same HP that my 900 thats why i wanted to stay with egual power. i dont know.

Can't go wrong with a CBR954RR fuel injection, great power, and is lighter than the 600rr . As well as having a great riding position.

I've had the same 900RR since '93 and this week I borrowed a friend's '07 ZX-6R ... holy christ.

Not as much power at low revs, but when it reaches 8k rpm the little Ninja dusts my 893cc Honda ... all the way to 14k where it drops off before redline at 16,500rpm. Guess what my redline is ... 11,000.

On a track, I'm sure the Ninja would late-brake its way past the 900RR without much trouble and erase any low-end torque advantage from the Honda. I'm guessing the '09 600RR is at least as good or better than that ZX-6 (although the magazines picked the new '09 Kawasaki over the Honda, barely).

Pardon me while I doze off now and imagine gripping a 2010 CBR1000RR ...

up in the foothills here in the central valley people ride every weekend, and someone wrecks every week. Mostly the guys and their egos trying to keep up with each other. I remember when 75 HP was a LOT of power.

It is kinda open-ended, its the age old question of how much power do you really need and how much can you realistically use on the street. The average guy who doesnt have any track time just cant use what the new bikes can deliver. Every wreck gets posted on our little forum we have up here around fresno, and just about every one of them is a guy who is too hot into a corner and cant negotiate the corner; and off they go. Some even fatal.

I can go up to the hills with a pack of new sportbikes and stay right with them on my 04 BMW R1150RT. Basically a 620 lb cop bike, but that tells you something about riding and bikes.....

The guys I sometimes ride with have bikes ranging from BMW R1100R to BMW GS to CBR600 to 2009 Fireblade. On the roads we ride, it's not the bike that matters. Actually, not quite true - the Adventure bikes have an advantage in terms of improved vision.

The guy with the CBR600RR recently bought a new Fireblade - one of the reasons he told me was that his 600 couldn't keep up with my 900RR. His 1000 still can't keep up with my 900.....

Default What are you looking for

There are many modifications that you can do to a 900rr as well as any other bike that will improve performance of the machine. ar you looking to race or street performance looking for off the line acceleration or to do 180 on the highway. Anyway you look at it you can get get any of the results cheaper than buying a new bike. this year i went from a FZR 600 to a 900RR and was quite amazed on the fit and ridability difference of the machines. my friends also bought new bikes this year, upgrading from 250 to 600 cc bikes, one is a 04 gsxr600 and the other is a 00 r6. the one that is most commented on in the group is the 900rr iIDK if it is the face that is much older and the style is what they like or because of it being brighter colors. the fact is that those riders with the 600 paid a lot more money and really seldom pull away from me. I a big rider 6-2 250LBS the 600 would even feel close to the 900

Thats cool! I just bought a '97 900rr and am picking it up today to replace my '89 FZR600. How do you like it? What do I have to look forward to and what do you miss if anything about the FZR?
