For long term storage lifting the bike off the ground prohibits the tires from getting flat spots.

It depends what kind of work your doing. If your working on the suspension, brakes, wheels and tires, etc. It keeps the bike balanced better while its lifted off the ground. Also a stand takes the pressure off the front forks while it is just sitting for possibly all winter. Longer spring and seal life.

I put my bike on stands and uit has made it a whole lot eaiser top mod it. But I was told to buy stand from a good frind who has been riding because he said your tires might dry rot and get flat spots if kept on the cold cement the whole winter. I think a $100 investment will keep me from spending money on tires which is a whole lot more!!!

For winter storage, it's said (not proven) that the cold cement can suck the oils out of your tires...

That's what I was told also and that is one reason I have it.

1. Stands are great for tire changes
2. Stands are great for brake pad changes
3. Stands are great for chain maintainence and replacement
4. Stands keep the flat spots off the tires
5. Stands add stability to the bike, knocking one over can turn into $1000 repair quick
6. Stands are a great for track days, many tracks require removal of kickstand

I can see where a guy with a touring bike that gets service at the dealership would never need a stand. A sportbike rider doing their own service can hardly get by without them.

I have only parked my ike for 6 days this year ( kind of a die hard, hope I don't lose that as I get old) so Im not worried bout the tires. Found a lift yallthink that is better than stands for mech work

What type of lift are you talking about? A jack or an actually lift that picks up from the wheels? Stands are still the best IMO. Makes it easy to work on everything and they are very stable.
