Hey i just bought an 05 600rr red/black last night and need to know whats the good breakin period. I looked in the manual and cann't find where it says. I don't know how long or what to do and not to do. Don't want to do it wrong because i want to keep it for a while.

keep it under 4k till 600, then change to half half oil. dont after market till after 10k and second oil change to full synthetic. im sure there are variations but thats what ive been doing. then theres the extreme break in where you rev the f^&$% out of it then change oil after a short number of miles. never tried that so dunno.

500 miles is the best for any bike. Keep it under kick-in rpm's (4k-5k) as much as possible.

It's probably too late for this, since it's been almost a month, but another important thing during the break-in period is not to allow the engine to stay at the same RPM for any extended period of time.

As for the manual, it says not to WOT or accelerate hard for the first 300 miles (page 216), though I've heard several people recommend more like 5-600 miles.

I was told by all the mechanics at my local Honda Dealership to keep it under 8000rpm's for about 300 miles. They said to go fast...go slow..rev it up a little...just try to keep it under 8000rpm's for a while . That's all! You want to accerlerate hard once in a while to let the pistons make their groove. The main thing is not to stay(As Simon Said) at the same RPM for an extended period of time. If you break it in too gently then you will still get a lot of metal and debris in your oil filter after the 600 mile oil change! The whole idea is to get all that crap into the filter for the first oil change!

i let my bike break in till 600 mi. then i put silkolene oil in it (its an ester based oil) now i cant even feel the shifting its nice and smooth, and it even helps the acceleration.

If you ask 100 people, you will get 100 different answers, I took it easy for the first 500 miles, then changed the oil to get all of the metal shavings out that you get when it is new. Don't over-rev it, but don't lug it out as well. As for the oil, I only use Honda oil. I feel like if you break it in with that oil, you should keep using it.
