There are 2 types of riders...
those who have... and those who will.
Today I joined the former group.
Yes I dropped my beloved '07.
fortunately there was very little damage, and I didn't get hurt.
I was practicing low speed (4-8 MPH) U turns in preparation to taking the MSF course, and leaned the bike a little to much on a right turn.
( I had been practicing turning for over an hour in this parking lot, and was already getting tired, which probably contributed to my mistake)
So I chopped the throttle and grabbed a handfullof brake, and set the bike down on her side.
Slider did more than it's job, and I only ended up with a little rash on the turn signals, the actual slider puck, and the side of the tail. (right where I had just finished the pinstriping last night, so I just replaced the pinstriping, and it's hardly noticeable)
However it broke the right side mirror right at the base of the metal stalk.
No big deal, I'll order a new one tomorow at the shop, but I'm a little bummed out about having layed her down.
It's a wierd feeling though, a tthe same time I am concious that falling is sometimes part of riding, so it doesn't bother me that much, and I am definately glad that it was such a little thing. And at least that way I've gotten it out of the way, and am not that worried anymore.
I dropped her, she got a little rashed, but we're both fine and it's not the end of the world. I took the drop as a sign that it was time to call it a day ( I was tired, and a litle upset about the mirror) but I'm having a blast with this thing, and can't wait to take it out on the road again.

RE: There are 2 types of riders...
Yeah, I just finished reading Total Control, and Twist of the Wrist2 and could identify at least 3 different mistakes that I made that contributed to dropping her.
That's part of what had me bummed out, knowing that I messed up.
But I learned a couple of things, and next time, I'll worka little more on my throttle control, and make sure I'm not overdoing it when I notice that I'm getting tired.

nothing wrong with leaning too much...problem was not enough throttle...hope you learned something...

that's what frustrated me... knowing exactly what to do, but having my instincts do the exact opposite.
But hey; that's why I'm practicing in a parking lot... so I can "push the envelope" a little more and mess up in a "safe" environment, and hopefully avoid doing the same mistakes in traffic. (although I do ride on traffic to get to this particular parking lot, but I find riding at the normal traffic speed, not as hard as trying to concentrate on riding "technique" )
And yes I did learnsome very important lessons; among others... I still have a lot to learn about throttle control, and my right turns stink [&:]

Don't worry so much about the U-turns, theyll tell you in the class. Whats going to save your life.. its the swerving and fast stopping, not a U-turn. You can always walk the bike if the U-turn is too tight or put your feet down in real life, so they dont count that as much as the other stuff. Either way, I hope it gets fixed up and is all better soon.
