Speedometers and sprockets
When I first got my '03 cbr 600 rr I noticed that the speedometer seemed to be off. I had it radar checked and paced it with some friend's vehicles and sure enough, it was always reading 5 mph faster than what I was actually going. Last week I ended up having to get a new chain and sprockets, and the gearing that I got from the company was 16 front 43 rear. While preparing for the new sprockets I realized that the gearing that was on the bike was 16 front 48 rear. Could this have been why my speedo was always off? What would the difference be between 43 rear and 48 rear? Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks guys!!!!

RE: Speedometers and sprockets
If you had a larger than stock rear sprocket on your bike it will mess up the speedo. sounds like your 5 teeth higher than stock in the rear which will give you more acceleration, but less top end over the stock gearing. My bike is an 05 that came with 16 front and 43 rear also. i changed the front to 15 and the rear to 46 which is basically the same way your bike is setup now (16f 43r). My speedo was off approx. 12.4% higher than i was actually going. So at 50 mhp actual speed, my speedo read 56mph. sounds like the same prob you have. I installed the speeo healer to correct it. now it works fine. Also keep in mind if you go back to the stock gearing that you purchased (16f,43r) you will loose a noticable amount of acceleration but your top speed will be a little higher - if you ever get there. As for me i would keep the gear setup you have now, but that's just my own preference.

Yes. the speedo healer is easy to install. It plugs right into the speed sensor on your bike . you just have to mount the box and the selector switch. I put mine in the trunk. i have the center-up exhaust so my trunk isn't very big, but i had no problem finding room for it in there. The selector switch you want to mount where it's accessable while your riding. it has a top speed memory so you can check your highest speed whenever you want. It took about an hour for me to install, but i'm pretty **** about how i run wiring. you might be able to do it faster. You will have to calibrate it for you specific setup. but the speedo healer website has an easy to use online calculator to figure it out. It then will give you step by step instructions on how to program it. i spent $110.00 shipped. I also ordered the longer speed sensor wire so i would have enough wire to make it back to the trunk. I definately recommend that. $10.00 extra. good luck

http://www.calsportbike.com. that's where i got mine. you could do a search for speedo healer and find a ton of other places that sell it as well. maybe ebay. there's not a whole lot you can't buy off ebay. just make sure it's the right one for your bike so the connectors will be the same.
