RE: rear axle sliders?
I would recommend you get the shogun crash kit, it will save you a lot of money and comes with bar ends, axle spools, and no-cut frame sliders. I have it an its great. For the axle sliders go with the motovation for both the front and the rear, that should cover all your slide points, unless you want to go with a cage. This is the setup I have, less the cage, and its awesome, and looks good. The sliders also make for nice footrests if you dont want to be in the tuck all the time!

No.. Swingarm spools screw into that little female thread spot you have like two inches forward of your rear axle. The are for putting the back of the bike up with rear stands, etc... Rear Axle sliders bolt through the axle, and cover up your axle nuts, and act as sliders, much like your frame sliders do. You dont really need both, but it not gonna hut at all, I have both.

RE: rear axle sliders?
My first crash was a 70 mph lowside on the highway after hitting gravel. I had lightning performance frame sliders. Worked PERFECTLY. It saved my Rizoma front turnsignal and the left fairings. The tail was rashed up a little though.
My second crash was a 40 mph collision and the bike only slid for about 10-15 feet. I had Vortex frame sliders at the time and they ground down to just about nothing and completely ripped up the left side of the bike (which really didn't matter because the bike was a total loss). But I was very UNIMPRESSED with the durability of the Vortex sliders from such a short slide..
I went with Lightning Performance again for my new 07 after seeing how well they held up during my first crash. I don't want to say that they're no-cuts, but they have a very thick spacer to space them out about and inch to avoid the fairing. I haven't seen anyone actually install regular sliders onto an 07/08 yet because they would cut off the top of the lower faring completely with the way it's setup.
And installation was about 5 minutes once the fairings were removed (which took about 10 minutes)
