Default problem shifting into first or second from neutral.

First I would like to say hello, I'm a new user and I just got my first bike.

I'm not sure what its even called so I couldn't really search for it.

When I'm in neutral, my 05 cbr 600 rr doesn't always shift into first gear or second. I have to roll the bike a little to get it to shift and I'm not sure if its a normal issue or if I should get it checked out and what are some possible solutions.

Thanks in advance,
Soyko

Gear lock. That's what it is called. Solution is to roll the bike forward a bit.

Oh well, live and learn.

I also had that problem...What oil are you running?
I was running that shell rotella and had a hard time shifting it to 1st/2nd. I went back to the honda oil and that promblem has gone away. I am now running the mobile 1 mxt4 and had no issues as well. I am not saying that this is your problem but your oil lubercates your clutch aswell

You can also get it into first by holding down the shifter firmly (not hard, be delicate) while slowly letting the clutch out as the bike idles. No need to give it gas and as the clutch starts to engage you should be able to pop it down gently into first.

To be honest with you, I have no idea what kind of oil I'm running.

I just bought the bike Thursday and it already had an oil change, so I'll email the guy I bought it from and ask him.

Thanks for the tip.

my bike does the same thing. talk to my mechanic and he told me its normal. its because when you come to a complete stop the clucth and other parts are not moving. so when you move it slightly forward or slowly release the clutch brake the parts move and thus the gears ingauge. i was worried bout it until he explained. no worries bro its all gravy. just down shift before you stop. you should be doin that anyway

+1, if you aren't shifting back to 1st until you've stopped it jams the gearbox.. its not hurting anything but like phil said you should be dropping the gears as you slow anyway. <I may or maynot of been guilty of this when I started riding> Just slowly let the clutch out and the gears should pop, maybe rock the bike front to back a little.

I always shift down to first and then put it in neutral, so I can take my hand off the clutch, just started to drive and I have to admit it does hurt my forearms a bit.

I normally go down to first and shift before I stop completely, but you're saying I should stay in first until I stopped moving and than go to neutral?

As for taking the taking the MSF course, thats how I got my license :-)

Thanks for the tips.
