has anyone heard of this and if so what does it involve

 

Removal of forks and disassembly of each fork leg. Make sure your powdercoater knows damn good and well to not get any powder coat inside the axle area ir inside the forks. Reinstalling will be a bitch due to the extra material adding to the diameter, so make sure you can spread the clamps apart or you will drag and scratch the coating.
