You said you keep the bike covered right? What kind of cover is it and what's it made of? Do you put the cover on and pull it off a lot? That's my worthless .02.....something has rubbed against there over time......and just the lip at that

I certainly can see the black marks. Looks like it is wearing. Did you try waxing in that area to see if it makes a difference. I have a black '07 version. So, if it's wearing there on mine I won't notice.

I wonder if by using that cover on and off the bike, it is wearing the paint in that area. I bet it is rubbing it off. Just a thought.

That's my guess.....go see what its made of. Is it real tight fitting? That's probably the irony of it all....it does more harm than good. BTW.....I think Honda sells touch up paint if it starts buggin you too much. I bought the Honda cover....yeah its expensive, but it wont scratch the bike.

It is a "wolf autpmotive motorcycle cover" Made out of this like plastc type material. and on the foward and aft part of it it has this like softer material that is supposed to be non scratch material.

The cover is actually too big for it. not tight in any way.

Weird. Then it's probably not the cover. The paint is probably thin on those ends. So, maybe it's just wearing from cleaning. I give up. Like I said before, mine is black and could easily be doing the same thing. Just not noticeable.
