OIL Change Poll......
Hey just a quick poll I was thinking about, (cause its time to change the oil....lol) How often does everyone change their oil and oil filter... Me myself I change it every 2000 miles...both oil and filter... K/N oil filter, anyone leave the filter on longer then one oil change? at $12 bucks a filter you would think they would be able to be on longer.... As far as the Oil I am using the Honda flavor......every 2000 miles, thought maybe longer but wanted to see what everyone thought..... THANKS!!!!

RE: OIL Change Poll......
The specs are for every 4000 miles, I’m going with that. I use the K&N 204 filter as well and the Honda oil w/out Moly. Doesn’t seem useful to change the oil and not the filter, as soon as you start it up, you just mixed 2+ quarts of oil with a filter filled with old oil. At 4k mile changes, I’ll do about 3 a year… 4 at the most, so it’s worth it to change oil and filter to me. Is there some reason you are changing every 2000 miles? I just read an ad for a bike that listed oil changed every 1000 miles? Kinda over kill on the maintenance, I can see 2000 or 3000 if you don’t ride much, but not 1000.

RE: OIL Change Poll......
Whats up with everybody running the expensive filters and oil??? 17000 hard miles on a 5.00 dollar fram filter from wal-mart and 10w-40 castrol full synthetic also from wal-mart. Oil change every 5000 miles or about 3 times a year. I ride to work, weekends and trackdays and never had a clutch, engine or any other related problem. Oh yeah, its rediculous not to change the filter when you change the oil. Thats like wiping your butt when it aint dirty.

RE: OIL Change Poll......
I order my K&N for about $12... the Honda filter at my local shops cost me $14. Better filter for a cheaper price... go stealership, umm... I mean dealership. Also, I use Honda oil GN4 w/out moly 10 W40. Regular oils have additives that will wear out the clutches faster. That's the difference between auto oils and motorcycle oils. Different designs on the engine/transmission so you have different oils. Yes, my brother does the same, uses cheap auto oil from the parts stores. It works for him... but he is ready to replace his clutch on his shadow. It's not that much more money when you think about it. My bike holds 3 quarts and if I remember right, it's still under $4 a quart. So I'm paying $6 to $9 more on my oil change buy using Honda oil. $10... I think I like my bike more than that. Also, the schedule for changing the oil is set around the viscosity break down. The oil will look the same at 1000 as it will at 4000 miles. The difference is the amount of heating and cooling it has endured over time. The heating and cooling cycles, in a sense, wear out the oil and it needs to be changed so you have the correct weight oil (10 W40) in your bike. And if your shop/store is out of 10 W40, 10 W30 is the same thing... well they perform the same.
This is where I order my filters from
