Oil
#4
Don't use automotive oil, what ever you get!!!!! It is not designed to go in a motorcycle... I took a whole class on why it shouldn't be used! If you ride a lot, I would go with the semi-synthetic Honda HP4 or if not go with the GN4. Motorcycle oil is designed for a motorcycle engine so make sure to at LEAST get a motorcycle-specific oil. This is a question a lot of customers have in our store and it is a big NO!

the oil at autozone doesn't hurt your motor it hurts your clutch
regular car oil is considered energy conserving, which means that it's slipperier than motorcycle oil, that will cause your clutch to slip and wear prematurely
get Honda GN4 at a minimum or one of the synthetics (blend or full)

I have done plenty of research on the internet and the best oil I have used is Shell Synthetic (blue gallon container) from Wal-Mart. I actually noticed the shifting was better with that oil than with the Repsol- and it was about 1/2 the price.
Primarily, you want an oil with small amounts of moly. This can cause clutch slippage motorcycles. It is not a concern whether or not the oil (or filter) is designed for a car or bike, it is the specifications that mater. The Mobile (M1-108 for the 1000RR) and Shell Rotella
Synthetic 5w-40 are both designed with cars in mind but are excellent for motorcycles.
Pay attention to the filter too. Stay away from Fram! Stock Honda is good, so are the Mobile (car) filters. Do a search on this forum for more info. Here is a good site also:
