No Gear is Bad News
Just a reminder to you guys who hit the curves hard and do 130mph on the highway in shorts and a t-shirt... Please rethink your apparel when riding hard. Ive been fortunate in the past while riding with no gear. A friend of mine from work was not so lucky last saturday. We met at a gas station and i asked him if he wanted to ride home and change before we hit the curves, but said he was going to take it easy. Im his friend not his dad so after i recommended it he refused and we left. Well after a while he was getting comfortable on his week and a half old 954 we hit a straight section of the interstate to the next section of curves and he took the f*** off...i was on my 600 gsxr so he left me pretty bad...but just then a van moved over trying to get out of his way...he tried to go around but he ended up hitting her. Probably doing in excess of 110mph in shorts and a polo. He lived, but he has 50 to 60 percent road rash coverage on his body and a broken foot. He was actually lucky considering the speed. I know you guys have heard these stories 100 times...but im making it 101. He is in pretty bad pain and his bike is beyond totaled. So if youre gonna hit it hard, please wear your gear, you may not be so lucky. Ill try to post the pics of the aftermath. I wasnt sure where to post this...i just felt i should. perhaps it will make some of you think twice. later guys

Damn....your friend was damn lucky. I wish him a speedy recovery. He was VERY lucky to live though. I ride the highway 17 miles each way daily on my 600 RR to work and back, and it's not so much an impact that I worry about, but what the cars behind me will do if I hit pavement...or even worse, going over the median.

he was extremely lucky...i didnt get a chance to photograph the van he hit...but he put a serious dent in her rear tailgate and bumper and busted out the rear glass. So ya he hit pretty hard considering she was doing 65 to 70mph. Also as you can see the bike was deflected enough to run off the highway and into the woods. Ive never personally seen someone slide so far in a bike accident. It was nuts to watch

the problem is people don't see how fast you are actually coming up on them. In their mind they are getting out of the way for you. But in your mind you have already determined them to be a stationary obsticle.
Sucks that he had to learn the hard way. I ate it pretty bad in a corner lacking leg protection.
but shorts and a polo? Almost asking for it

Jreed...thats exactly what happened...she briefly checked her mirror and saw him coming...went to get over for him but didnt realize he was doing triple digit speeds. And god...i know you posted in another thread of mine but did you ask about that motor? I may need it after all.
