Started off on a Ninja 250 long long ago and all is true that it's a great overall bike for learning experience and an invaluable teaching tool .. wish I had kept it as an "addition" instead of replacing because it's also fun in a different way from higher cc bikes even with a lot of experience. You gain much better fundamental skills by using a 250. So in summary, I agree with all the wise comments here about the good choice except for the comments that it looks super cool; don't be dillusional .. it looks like *** [8D] (the only decent looking 250's I've seen are the ones sold overseas) but looks should be the last factor in the decision ... unless it's last call at your local pub.

250s are a good start. Really depends on you...I started on a 2003 636 and love it. Then I got a 600RR and the verdict is still out but that is me. Someone mentioned a YZF 600r which is what a friend started on. He likes it alot and has ridden on it now for over a year. Some others on an ex500...Really depends on you. I do suggest to start on something used so you worry more about learning to ride than worry about dropping a brand new bike.

Four other friends and myself all started out with brand new 600's. Unless you are an absolute spastic retard, just go ahead and get the 600. Who says you have to go ***** to the wall from the get go? You can get outrun by a vespa, 250, etc...on these things if you want to. Dont listen to any of these people, get a used 600, so when you drop it you wont be out much money.

tell us how you really feel!

you've been riding 6 months. you do not have enough saddle time to make that claim. with an attitude like that, it's only time before you get bitten...

i bet given the same saddletime, one starting on a 250 will outride someone starting on a 600.

You have got to be kidding me. If you are somewhat athletic and not stupid, you minimize risks involved in riding these. I still do not understand what the big deal is about 600's, yes they are fast and get that everyone is out to kill you, you will be fine. If you claim to be so experienced, yes you might outrun me. That is exactly the point I was making, know what it is that you are riding and respect it. By the way, I can already ride wheelies and posted a record track time at my local track. So dont speak to me like these are hard to ride, its just until recently that non dorks started getting these so dont expect to be the fastest guy at the track any longer.

Tell me your not serious.
Does it really take that much talent to go fast in a straight line or wheelie a bike with a 100hp? It's funny that you say there not hard to ride cause ask anyone outside of your local track that can REALLY ride and they will tell it is VERY hard to ride these bikes fast outside of a straight line.

Do you have any idea where I ride? This whole state is full of twisties, state funded "SCENIC DRIVES"! You people have made me wish I had bought a GSXR! At least there are a few people on their site that know what they are talking about. A professional racer lives across the street from me and has taught me more than you could understand. His everyday bike is Honda, this is why I got one. You dont need a track or even on a track, the best lessons are to follow someone better than you and just pay attention. I guess my point is to just get out and ride it. I LOVE MY HONDA AND IT PISSES ME OFF TO SEE OTHER PEOPLE RECOMMENDING OTHER BIKES!!!!!!!!! Sorry for the rants!
