im more worried about my 69 camaro being stolen (classics are valueable and easier to grab), well not mine anymore (viper alarm system.. the wind chirps the thing off haha).. a Pro thief can steal anything he wants, he was trained for every alarm system and way to hot-wired.. But having a noticable alarm system reduces the chances of someone going for that vehicle, usually 6 or so bikes will be parked in a parking lot - one has a $300 alarm system the others dont, which one you think the crook is going to go for? (just like the discovery channel, the predator always goes for the weak prey).. At least have a visual alarm (a little LED light drilled in the dashbroad that blinks), it will keep people from sitting on the bike and will keep some potential crooks away..
Plus having an alarm system reduces your insurance payments, you spent $300 - but you probbly took about $5-10 off a month, so it will pay off. And who wants to go thru that hassale of trying to get the money out of the insurance agency and getting a new bike? you will be bikeless for at least 3 months, so why even deal with it haha...

OK. A couple of things. The facts that sport bikes get stolen does NOT deter me from buying one. It will be insured, so no problem. I was just trying to evaluate the benefits of an alarm system as well as whether or not the risk was very real with my uitilization profile.
I'm thinking that having a blinking LED light on the dash might not be a bad idea. Along with a decal strategically placed. The appearance of an alarm is probably 90% of the effectiveness anyway. Everyone who says the bad guys will get her anyway if they really want it are exactly right.
Another point. How does everyone feel about buying parts off of Ebay - realizing that likely many of them are stolen from fellow riders?
