Default Kick stand start

Hi guys I just purchased a 08 600rr used and I am wondering if they have a safety thing to where you can only start the bike with the kickstand up and if you put it down the bike dies regardless of being in neutral and the clutch being in or out. If it is a feature how can I bypass it? or should the bike start with the kickstand down as well

The only safety feature that it has is the bike will not start and will die if the bike is in gear and you put the kick stand down. If the bike is in N and the kick stand down it will start and run.

If you want to bypass it, you can cut the switch from the wire and tie the two wires together.

But why would you want to bypass it? I've seen people bypass it, then turn the bike on with the stand still down, forget about it, and then crash on the first left-hander when it catches the asphalt.

The only reason I've seen for bypassing it is when stunters need to for certain tricks and trackday guys do it when they remove the kickstand completely.

I want to bypass it for now so that I can let the bike warm up its been about 40 degrees around here and its cold as ***** sitting on the bike waiting for it to warm up so I can go for a ride around the block I just got the bike a couple of days ago and the bypass would be to see if that is the problem or not

Ok I see.

If it isn't allowing you to start it in neutral then there must be something wrong. I don't think it would be with the kickstand switch though. A broken switch would make the bike think the kickstand was always up or always down. If it thought it was down you'd never be able to put it in gear without the bike shutting off, and if it thought it was up you'd be able to start it in neutral without a problem.

You can always test it by starting the bike in gear with the stand up and then putting it down to see if the engine dies.

Does the neutral light in the gauge work when it's in neutral?

Yeah I am thinking the N switch is bad.

well i bypassed the kick stand switch and i can now spin it over with the kick stand down and i had it started up last night while working on it and i started it this afternoon and now it just spins over and tries to start but wont fire up and i tried this before messing with the kick stand switch its like its getting plenty of fuel but no fire. next thing to check is my neutral switch cause it seems like the bike wants to lurch forward when i go to start it regardless of gear or neutral and she is spinning over rich as can be

If it lurches forward it means that it is not actually in neutral when you are trying to start it. Thats why they say to not bypass the kickstand switch or you could tip it over.
