If you put your hand on the lens with HID's and Halogens, the Halogens are soooo much hotter so to me it just doesnt make sense.

If it actually happened to someone personally then I will admit I am wrong.
But the ballast will get hotter then the 35W HID's.

From DDM Tuning website. 35W H7 was recommended for 600rr by people on 600rr forum.

What is the difference between 55w and 35w kits?
Our 55w HID kits are 40% brighter than the standard 35w kits.
The 55W system ballasts are about 1 cm longer than the 35W ballasts.
55w kits tend to wash out some of the color of the HID bulb due to the light output( for example, a 55w 8000k will look similar in color to a 35w 6000k kit).
Our 55w HID Kit is not recommended for smaller fog light housings because they tend to concentrate a large amount of heat in a small area.

I understand that 35W is recommended as it is the replacement for the 55W Halogen and the 55W are intended for those with 90-100W Halogens.

As for the 55W`s in a fog light housing is most fog lights are not more then 35W halogens and a very small enclosure so therefore you are putting in a light that is equal to more then 3x the rating.

But I truly think it is a myth that someone just mis-read from their site and says it will happen to all housings.

Not saying it was you or your wrong, That is just my opinion.

The 55W system ballasts are larger than the 35W ballasts - not by a HUGE amount but a bigger difference with our limited space.

55w Kits are not recommended for smaller fog light housings because they tend to concentrate a large amount of heat in a small area.

and 55w may fry your wiring. They work the bulb harder / put out more heat which could shorten life span.

All in all you can't really tell the difference. 35w's work great. So not worth the potential problems of 55w.

And again these are POTENTIAL problems. Not sure it happens in our bike applications often or not. I haven't really seen much hard evidence that they do, but then again I think most people go with the 35w's to minimize issues.

Keep us updated on your lifespan / functionality of the 55w's. Would be interesting to see.
