Help please. Thinking of buying a 600rr (track bike) and making it street legal.
Hello all. I am in the market for a new bike! I soldd my F4I about 4 weeks ago and now I am eyeing on two bikes. First is a 2005 GSXR 600 with 35k miles. Problem is the owner put in a new engine because its original engine blew up. Second is a 2004 CBR 600rr. Ofcourse I am leaning toward the Honda. But does it look like the bike would last long (engine) and would it be expensive to legalize it (make itstreet legal) Please tell me what you think. Here is the bike. Honda 600rr 2004 track bike clear title

i wouldnt think it would be to expensive to put back on the road since he has the oem plastics and as far as reliable i would ask how many track hours it has on it but i would think it should be fine. you could always sell the race plastics for money for street parts but thats just my opinion

thats already a steal on that 600RR. Making it street legal again inst hard at all esp if all the oem or street trim is included. I wouldnt touch that GSXR with a ten foot pole. It screams ABUSED ABUSED ABUSED!!! thats the only reason it would have blown a motor and there is no telling what will go next or has.
I'd check the 600RR out n get it. If I lived out there and had the $$ I would get it

Definitely go for it (600rr) as long as it runs, shifts solid and rides ok. With the street plastics available, it won't be hard at all to get it back on the street. You could even sell the track plastics and get some money back. Or better yet, keep both sets of plastics and get your butt to a local track. It is way more fun then the street
When you pick it up ask him to have all the plastics removed so you can check the engine and frame over. Don't make the same mistake I did... I ended up getting what I thought was a steal from an honest buyer, only to find out the engine was cracked in 2 places. People wreck and sell their bikes often with hidden damage. Look it over at every mount.

some of yall are cheap skates lol. $3000 for a 04 600RR with extras is a steal as is. Depending on the track skins, you're looking at almost $1k, Sato rear sets, $300 - $500, exhaust, stands, woodcraft case protectors, oem plastics. hell just all that would be over $1500 alone. And you're wanting to talk him down on the bike??? If it were mine $3000 would be firm n lowballers would be shown the curb
Because its been tracked doesnt lower its value

To you. I would NEVER buy a track bike to use for the street. Track bikes are run hard. Hard running means more cylinder pressure, more revs which means more bearing surface, cylinder wall and piston/ring area swept, more cam and valve wear etc. Theres no reason a track bike should hold its value like a well maintained street bike.
