Default Help out a newbie!!

I am just about to get my first sportbike of my life. I have raced motocross my whole life so needless to say, I have the basics down, I just have to learn the techniques on a sportbike. I have a Yamaha Vmax right now and it will be gone saturday. My question is, am I too big for a 600rr. I am 6'3 230 pounds. I ride a 07 CRF450r on the dirt, but I wanna get into doing some track days on the sportbike. Will a 600 have to work too hard to pull me? Should I just get a 1000 to begin with and respect the steeper learning curve on the 1000? Any experienced feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank in advance guys.

Given your experience and height...a 600RR will be just fine. I'veridden the liter bikes and the 600's. Honestly...its funner to ride a 600 using the max potential of the bike then it is always backed off with a 1000. Plus...you can mod the hell out of a 600rr...you wont believe how fast you can make these things...trust me

Sit on them and see how it fits . I suggest a suspension upgrade. FWIW I'm 6'1" 213lb.

let me put a disclaimer: other newbies new to bikes in general, the 600 is not a beginer bike:.

with that said get the 600, great starter with someone that has experience like you and also has enough power to make the most experienced (and big) rider smile when going thro the twisties of the track or hittin up a straight away.the only reason you should get a 1k bike is to race other 1k bikes imo.

I appreciate the feedback. So I guess its kind of like a 250f and a 450f in mx. I race the intermediate class on a 450f, but when I get to have a chance to ride a 250f, I have a lot more fun. The funny part is, even with my size, alot of people have told me I am faster on a 250f than a 450f. I see what you guys mean about being more fun to ride. I just keep picturing me getting a 1000 and being at the track the first time and get alittle confident and come out of a turn and give alittle too much gas and sliding out and then high-siding and busting my ***. lol. I think I have made my decision. By the way, were there any significant upgrade between the 07-08 rr's? I know of a couple of 07's around here that I can get a awesome deal on. thanks

I rode motocross for about 10 years before geiiting my first street bike. I bought a 2001 F4i, which I absolutly love. Im 6'4, 215 lbs, and my bike has no problem pulling me around. The 600 is plenty, trust me, you will love it and wont be disapointed. Ride safe and enjoy!!
